We have been a bit quiet on here lately, only because it has been so busy!!

We have recently won some amazing new contracts, carrying out fire risk assessments for new and existing clients and providing our consultancy services to ensure companies are meeting their requirements and implementing new procedures to improve efficiency.

It’s here!!

We have briefly mentioned this in a previous post, however, we think it’s time everyone knew a bit more.

We have invested in a new software system to provide an even better service to our clients.

We have teamed up with Aurora Data Ltd to provide our services via an online system which will allow our clients to have an online portal that they will be able to manage fire risk assessment actions and fire door assessment actions. These actions can be allocated to anyone with a license to be able to deal with them accordingly (this can also include allocating to external contractors).

Aurora also allows us to create bespoke templates for our clients if they have specific needs or manage premises that require additional information input such as entertainment venues and theatres etc.

Quick question… do you actually know what a Fire Risk Assessment is?

A fire risk assessment is a legal requirement that checks how safe a building is from fire and what needs to be done to protect the people inside it.

Here are the 5 key steps involved:

👉 1. Identify fire hazards
Anything that could start a fire or help it spread.

👉 2. Identify who could be at risk
Staff, visitors, residents, and anyone more vulnerable.

👉 3. Evaluate the risks & reduce/remove them
Fixing issues like blocked exits, poor housekeeping, or missing fire safety measures.

👉 4. Record the findings
Writing down what’s been found and what actions are needed.

👉 5. Review it regularly
Especially if the building, layout, or occupancy changes.

What a few weeks it has been for Optimum Fire!

Big things happening you might like to be a part of!

Firstly, we are proud to be part of the business league joining a huge array of businesses competing across the year in endurance events whilst raising money for Hospiscare, an amazing charity and well deserving of all the funds raised on behalf of Raceworld Karting efforts.

Secondly, we have had some amazing contracts come through helping new clients from holiday let owners to architects to property management companies utilising our fire risk assessment services and consultancy services for some amazing properties in the Southwest and beyond.

Thirdly, we have signed up with an amazing new supplier to help us and our customers manage fire risk assessments online, the software allows our larger customers full access to each fire risk assessment live to sign off actions, provide evidence and allow them to allocate their actions to specific people inside and outside their business, from school academy trusts to property management companies, we are helping make things easier when it comes to fire safety.

Fourthly, we are now able to offer building safety cases for Higher Risk Buildings across England, we can offer assistance to property management companies and building freeholders in the completion of Building Safety Case Reports to submit to the Building Safety Regulator to achieve a Building Assessment Certificate.

Fire Risk Assessments: Competency Is Critical.

A fire risk assessment must be suitable and sufficient — not just completed cheaply or quickly.

BS 8674 highlights the importance of fire risk assessor competency, setting clear expectations around qualifications, knowledge, and professional conduct. Without a competent assessor, even a completed assessment may fail to meet legal requirements.

At Optimum Fire, all of our fire risk assessors hold a minimum Level 4 Diploma in Fire Risk Assessment, ensuring every report we produce is:
✔️ Technically robust
✔️ Fully compliant with fire safety legislation
✔️ Suitable and sufficient under the Fire Safety Order
✔️ Clear, practical, and legally defensible

A fire risk assessment is a live safety document — it must also be reviewed regularly and updated when changes occur to the building, occupancy, or risk profile. Failing to review an assessment can leave responsible persons exposed to enforcement action, insurance issues, and increased life safety risk.
