Appreciation post – Katie 💙

(I had drafted this post at the end of last term and somehow never scheduled it to be shared 😩 But it’s one that really needs to be, so here it is… 🥹)

A lot of you will have met Katie over the years, as she first started working for SwimKidz Oxfordshire back in 2018!

Alongside her previous full time accounting job, Katie loved teaching children. She was, and still is, an incredibly knowledgeable, kind and caring teacher. ❤️

Eventually, teaching alongside a full time career physically became too much and Katie had to step away. But whenever we needed help, she came back. More recently, she jetted off travelling, but throughout it all she has always been at the end of the phone and has never hesitated to come back and help when the team and I have needed her, whenever she could alongside her full time work commitments.

When the business reopened after 18 months of Covid closures, my daughter had been born just three days before and I was facing one of the most challenging times of my life. Just two months later, Katie came back to help. 🥹

And more recently, during this term, when Fay was rushed off for emergency surgery, Katie returned with very little notice to support us. She travelled to London to renew her Lifesavers qualification, stepped straight back in and was like she had never left. 💙

Katie, I am so incredibly grateful that our paths crossed. You have supported me, the team and our swimmers through some really difficult times, and I will never forget that.

Although you’re not able to teach with us anymore (you know I will still try and steal you for the odd occasion if I can 😉) You will always be a very special part of the SwimKidz Oxfordshire family.

Thank you for everything, Katie. 💙🦈

Some people leave a lasting impact long after they stop being part of the day to day, and Katie is definitely one of those people. ❤️

Sometimes we get messages that remind us exactly why we do what we do. 🥹❤️

I received this message during the current summer break, and it really stopped me in my tracks.

Over the years, we’ve had so many of our swimmers (and their parents!) tell us about moments when they’ve remembered and used the skills they’ve learned in their SwimKidz lessons in a real life situation.

And this is exactly why we practise things again… and again… and again.

I know sometimes some of what we teach can look repetitive. Treading water, floating, getting to the side, staying calm… you might wonder why we keep going over them.

But there is a reason.

We want these skills to become second nature. So that if a child ever finds themselves in a situation where they need them, they don’t have to stop and think about what to do. Their swimming knowledge and water safety skills can take over.

This message from Zach’s mum is a perfect example of that. ❤️

“Hiya Tara, I just wanted to message you and let you know what happened today with Zach. We have a local lake where we live and you can fish on it, Zach for the first time ever fell in and couldn’t touch the bottom. He didn’t panic at all and treaded water fully clothed and shoes on and managed to get himself to the side and hold on for Dave to pull him out, I asked him if he was frightened and he said no I knew what to do because of swimming. I just wanted to let you know that swim kidz quite literally kept him calm and most defiantly stopped him from drowning even though he was quite close to the side he still couldn’t touch the bottom. Swim kidz is most definitely worth every penny in that moment and he got out totally unfazed about what happened xx”

Reading that Zach knew what to do, stayed calm, treaded water fully clothed and with shoes on, and got himself safely to the side is exactly what water safety education is about.

We obviously never want our swimmers to have to use these skills in a real emergency, but knowing that they could is one of the most important things we can give them.

Swimming isn't just about swimming lengths or learning strokes.
It’s about confidence, awareness, water safety and giving children the skills they may one day need to keep themselves safe. 🩵

Thank you so much to Zach’s mum for taking the time to share this with us. It means more than you know. 🥹

One day they’ll be swimming without you… 🥹💦

So for now, soak up every little splash. 🤍

Those tiny hands reaching for yours.
The giggles.
The cuddles.
The little moments of bravery.
And that look on their face when they discover something new. 🥰

Baby swimming is about so much more than learning to swim. It’s time together, building confidence, creating a bond and making memories that you’ll treasure forever. 🐳💦

And before you know it, that tiny baby you once held in the pool will be swimming away from you! 🥹

✨ Our September term is coming! ✨

If you have a little one from 3 months old, come and join us in the water. We’d absolutely love to meet you. 💙

Let’s make a splash together this September! 🏊‍♀️💦

☀️ That’s a wrap for this term! ☀️

As another fantastic term comes to an end, we’d like to say a huge THANK YOU to all of our amazing Swimkidz families for your continued support, smiles and enthusiasm. It’s been a pleasure watching so many of our swimmers grow in confidence, develop new skills and achieve so much in the pool. 💙🏊

Our team are now taking a well-earned summer break to recharge and get ready for another exciting term. When hopefully everyone will be fully fit !

📅 Lessons will restart from Tuesday 1st September.

The office will be open on and off throughout the holidays, but please don’t worry if you need us, our emails will still be monitored, and we’ll get back to you as soon as we can.

We hope you all have a fantastic summer filled with fun, laughter and wonderful family memories. If you’re heading to the beach, pool or on holiday, please remember to stay safe around water and keep practising those water safety skills you’ve learnt in lessons. 🌊💙

Have an amazing summer, and we can’t wait to welcome you all back to the pool in September! ☀️🏖️🏊

🏖️🌊 SUMMER IS HERE… AND SO ARE BEACH DAYS! 🌊🏖️

With the summer holidays here, lots of you will be heading to the beach for some well deserved fun in the sun! ☀️⛱️ But before you dive in, make sure you and your family know what the beach safety flags mean. 🚩

❤️💛 RED & YELLOW FLAGS – The safest place to swim! This is the lifeguarded area, so always swim between these flags and listen to the lifeguards.

🚩 RED FLAG – DANGER! Never enter the water when a red flag is flying.

🏁 BLACK & WHITE CHEQUERED FLAGS – This area is for surfboards, paddleboards, kayaks and other non-powered craft. Do not swim here.

🟠 ORANGE WINDSOCK – Indicates strong or offshore winds. Never use inflatables when the windsock is flying, as they can quickly be blown out to sea.

🌊 Remember, conditions can change quickly, so always check the flags, listen to the lifeguards and keep a close eye on children around water. And if you’re unsure… ask a lifeguard! 🛟

Have fun, stay safe and make lots of amazing summer memories! 💙☀️

This week has definitely been an emotional one as we say goodbye (or rather, see you less often) to some of our amazing little swimmers who have been with us since they were tiny babies and are now all grown up, ready to start school in September. 🥹💙

It has been such a privilege to watch each of you grow into confident, happy swimmers and wonderful little people. Watching your journey from those very first splashes to swimming with confidence is something we’ll always treasure.

For some, like Isaac, it’s not quite goodbye! 🩵 Moving to weekend lessons means we’ll still get to see your smiling face, but it just means saying goodbye to your weekday teacher, which is never easy. We’ll all miss our weekly swims together, but we’re so excited for your next chapter.

To all of our September starters, thank you for letting us be a part of your swimming journey. We are so proud of every single one of you and can’t wait to see all the amazing things you’ll achieve, both in and out of the pool. Good luck at school, you’ll all be amazing! 🌟🏊‍♂️💙

Reminder - Our Chandlings lessons will continue to run up to Sunday 26th July.
