A huge thank you to everyone who joined us at our Water Safety Awareness Event by the river yesterday.

We were delighted to speak with more than 125 members of the public, ranging from toddlers taking their first steps around the water to those enjoying their retirement. It was fantastic to see so many people taking an interest in staying safe around our waterways.
Visitors had the opportunity to try on some of our specialist rescue kit, handle water rescue equipment, and learn vital water safety information that could one day help save a life.

The importance of these events was highlighted when we were called into action during the day to assist a kayaker whose craft had capsized in the river. Thanks to our team’s presence at the event, we were able to help the individual safely out of the water.
Events like these are only successful because of the support and engagement of our local communities.

Thank you for taking the time to speak with us, ask questions, and learn more about staying safe around water.

Congratulations and welcome to Firefighters Parker and Lacey!

After successfully completing their two-week basic firefighter course a couple of weeks ago, Trudy and Harrison have now completed their safe to ride assessments at station and are officially on the run.

Being on the run means they are now able to respond to emergency incidents alongside the crew, putting their training into practice.

We would also like to congratulate all the other firefighters who successfully passed their basic course and are now back at their home stations, preparing to get on the run in their own communities.

Are you looking for a rewarding role where you can make a real difference? We are still recruiting On-Call Firefighters and would love to hear from you. If you’re interested in protecting your community, learning new skills, and being part of a dedicated team, please get in touch to find out more.

📸 Trudy and Harrison are highlighted in the picture.

FF Snoodyk taking a well earned five minute welfare break, making sure this lamb is safe and settled after working hard to stop a fire spreading towards a nearby hay barn.

With the current dry and warm conditions, it’s really important to stay wildfire aware. Fires can spread quickly through dry grass, crops, and farmland especially when there’s a breeze.

🔥 Please take care:

* Avoid lighting bonfires or fires in dry conditions
* Never leave flames unattended
* Keep water or a means of extinguishing nearby
* Dispose of ci******es safely and never drop them on the ground
* Be extra cautious around fields, barns, and open countryside

A small fire can escalate very quickly in these conditions.

This incident was a complete accident, and there was no fault from anyone involved.

We were delighted to welcome back former Watch Manager Shaun Betts to the station this week, where he returned to collect his retirement gift from the crew at Henley.

Shaun’s fire service career began right here at Henley as an on-call firefighter. He later transitioned to wholetime service, where he served at Rewley Road and The Slade Fire Stations. During his career, Shaun also worked at Training Centre, where he shared his knowledge, experience, and enthusiasm with the next generation of firefighters.

He later moved into the role of Station Support Officer, finishing his career supporting crews at Wallingford and here at Henley.

Shaun dedicated an incredible 30 years of service to the fire and rescue service, and we thank him for his commitment and contributions over the years.

We wish Shaun all the very best for the future as he begins an exciting new chapter as a health, nutrition and life coach.

Shaun is pictured here with Acting Watch Manager Michael Clarke.

We’re excited to announce that Henley is being selected to trial cutting-edge technology for emergency response incidents!

As part of this innovative approach, firefighter safety is being taken to the next level. Crews will now be able to pitch ladders from the comfort of the fire engine, using state-of-the-art remote systems to control our brand-new robotic firefighters.

These advanced units are designed to assist with operational tasks, reducing risk to crews while maintaining the highest standards of response.

This trial marks a big step forward in how we protect both our firefighters and the community — combining tradition with technology to shape the future of firefighting.
