A huge thank you to everyone who continues to donate clothing and textiles to our Fire Fighters Charity clothing bank. Your generosity really does make a difference, with the bin generating thousands of pounds every year to help support firefighters, fire service staff and their families when they need it most.

Unfortunately, we’ve recently seen an increase in donations being left beside the clothing bank when it is already full, rather than being placed inside the bin.

While we completely appreciate the intention, bags left outside can quickly become a problem. They:
🚶 Block the pedestrian walkway.
🦊 Can attract foxes and other animals, which often rip the bags open looking for food.
🗑️ Leave clothing scattered around, creating an untidy appearance and meaning some donations can no longer be used.

If you arrive and find the clothing bank is full, we’d really appreciate it if you could either:
👕 Hold onto your donation until the bin has been emptied, or
❤️ Use one of the many other charity clothing banks available around Henley.

With the crop harvest well under way are you safe?
We are asking you to consider the following:
🔥Have you created a fire break whilst harvesting?
💦Is there a water source nearby that we could use if needed?
🔧Have you cleaned down your machinery after use to prevent build up?
📒Have you got a plan of your farm for our use if a fire occurs?

As the weather gets hotter, rivers, lakes and reservoirs can look tempting.
But even on a hot day, the water can be dangerously cold, causing cold water shock in seconds.

Fifteen young people across the country have already lost their lives this summer.

A simple conversation after school or college today could help your child make safer choices and avoid a tragedy in your family.

Yesterday’s drill night took us off station and into the river, putting all of the water rescue training we’ve been focusing on throughout the past month into practice.

The scenario involved a boat that had capsized, leaving three casualties in the water. Using a range of different tactics, techniques and specialist equipment, our crews worked together to successfully locate and rescue all three casualties safely.

This exercise marks the end of almost a whole month of dedicated water rescue training during our weekly drill nights, helping our firefighters build and maintain the skills needed to respond effectively to real-life emergencies on and around the water.

A huge thank you to everyone who joined us at our Water Safety Awareness Event by the river yesterday.

We were delighted to speak with more than 125 members of the public, ranging from toddlers taking their first steps around the water to those enjoying their retirement. It was fantastic to see so many people taking an interest in staying safe around our waterways.
Visitors had the opportunity to try on some of our specialist rescue kit, handle water rescue equipment, and learn vital water safety information that could one day help save a life.

The importance of these events was highlighted when we were called into action during the day to assist a kayaker whose craft had capsized in the river. Thanks to our team’s presence at the event, we were able to help the individual safely out of the water.
Events like these are only successful because of the support and engagement of our local communities.
