The Nature Effect News Feed

The Nature Effect News Feed The Nature Effect is an community interest company for personal, professional and community development connecting people with their earth. Why do we need it?

What is the Nature Effect? We are a community interest company formed in 2011 offering personal professional and community development experiences and activities, connecting people to their earth. We are a loose group of associates with wide and varied interpretations of what this might mean and how we like to work. We artists, facilitators, teachers and change makers with a common interests. Mos

t of our activities are tailor-made to the clients who want to work with us. We also sometimes offer taster sessions and events. We love collaborating with others to for creative transformational change. - making our experience of life and work better, happier, healthier more relaxed... and accepting those things we cannot or do not chose to change with grace. Where did the idea come from? Throughout history leading thinkers, artists, scientist have commented on the power of nature to inspire, teach, refresh and to heal. Finding ways to experience the natural world as part of our daily lives, within our personal lives, our communities, our schools and our work helps us find balance: to learn better, to live longer and to feel happier. An increasing body of research from neuroscience, education and health shows the positive effects of time spent in nature. Studies from across the world show that exposure to nature improves concentration and lowers stress hormones in the body and boosts immune levels. The world is changing. New technology offers us more information, more choices, more entertainment…at faster speeds. We spend more time living in in front of screens, increasingly cut off from direct sensory experience of the natural world on which our survival depends. We are surrounded by environmental campaigns and concerns to the degree that many people associate the ‘environment’ with disaster. The Nature Effect is to bring more experiences of enjoyment, relaxation and learning through creative endeavour, living, learning, playing and simply being in contact with nature.

Thank you to everyone who visited us at our stall at the Wood Festival last weekend!

We had such a brilliant time running our water wishing well, painting stones, and decorating reclaimed fairy wings with you all.

A huge thank you as well for your generous donations. All proceeds will support our Inside Out project, helping provide therapeutic work with men in custody and supporting families visiting the two gardens we built at HMP Bullingdon.

A massive thank you to WOOD HQ for hosting this fantastic festival - we love it!

Join us this Sunday 12th at Kate’s Place in Florence Park (by the tennis courts).

We’re really excited for this month’s bug-themed session – we’ll be getting up close with bugs, doing some nature-inspired crafting, and cooking over the open fire (back by popular demand).

It will be a lovely, hands-on session – come along and join us!

Big milestone for the inside garden at HMP Bullingdon — construction is now complete!

New pathways are in, and we’ve added many more vegetable beds, creating a much larger and more purposeful growing space.

Planting begins in earnest at the end of the month (fingers crossed for a slightly drier spell). It’s the moment we’ve been working towards — transforming this newly built space into a thriving, productive garden.

Over the year ahead, we’ll be working closely with staff and men in the prison to grow not just vegetables, but skills, confidence and a shared sense of care for the space. Our hope is that this garden becomes a calm, restorative environment — somewhere to pause, reflect and reconnect with nature, while learning practical horticultural skills that can last well beyond the garden walls.

We are excited to see it bloom!

A big thank you to Pam Wickham for donating tables to the Visitor Garden at HMP Bullingdon. They’re a great addition to the space and already being well used.

Thanks as well to Phil for organising collection and delivery.

The garden is now in its second year and really starting to green up — it’s brilliant to see the space continuing to develop into a welcoming environment for visitors and families.

We’re grateful to OCVA for enabling our engagement and stewardship work to continue with the men in the new garden Inside the prison. And we will be linking with families too!

With thanks to Community Action Groups - CAG Oxfordshire, Oxfordshire Community Foundation, PACT Charity and the team at Bullingdon Prison for their ongoing support.

At Kate’s Place, Florence Park on one of our sessions to connect families with nature we made flatbreads on the fire, did some clay modelling and learned how to make willow supple for weaving.
