Through The Lens: Oxfordshire and the First World War

Through The Lens: Oxfordshire and the First World War This project is a heritage and skills led introduction to WW1 for local young people aged 16 to 25, based in Oxford between November 2015 and March 2016.

Volunteers age 16-25 are invited to explore the lives of young people in the city and county through photographic and written records from
between 1914 – 1918 as part of the ‘Oxford Images of World War One project. The project will lead to a high profile outdoor photographic and text exhibition at Oxford Castle Quarter next summer and online resources. Volunteers need to commit to 12 sessions from

early November 2015 to March 2016 along with working independently to produce their
contribution to the exhibition. With professional support and mentoring volunteers will receive training in heritage research and interpretation,
stills photography and exhibition production. The project is in partnership with a number of academic and museum partners including the University of Oxford and the Museum of Oxford. Places are free but limited. To take part or find out more please contact the organisers Fete Day Ltd, Ameneh Enayat: [email protected]

All the way back in November we come together to get this project off the ground, and as we head towards the end of the exhibition we could not be more proud of what these guys have achieved.

This video highlights just some of the incredibly hard working volunteers who put everything into making this exhibition what it is today.

For months they have been exploring and researching the lives of Oxfordshire's own during the First World War, culminating in this final exhibition around the Oxford Castle Quarter, and we could not be more proud.

Throwback Thursday to this tremendous photo of the Somme by the talented Laura Boffin.

The trip was magnificent, and provided inspiration to all of our volunteers to make the final exhibition as brilliant as possible.

This is Ashlee Beazley. She researched deep into Dorothy Brooks' story, and women in the First World War.

Ashlee gives a great insight into how Dorothy travelled aline to the battlefields in Belgium in 1918, to visit and take photos of the places her brother fought and lost his life.

Another inspiring tale that can be found along with all the volunteers' projects here at Oxford Castle Quarter until 14th July!

Saturday 7th November 2015. Our Introductory Day to the project.

It's outstanding to see how far we have all come on this journey, and the dedication the volunteers have given to every single second is what has made the final exhibition so heart warming and moving.

Join us before the 14th July to experience it all for yourself. Outside at the Oxford Castle Quarter.

Throwback Thursday this week to a couple of months ago and our trip to the Somme.

We all had a great time, and it was truly moving to experience the battlefields where so many fought valiantly all those years ago.
