More information about our vigil this evening. Please do come along if you can, and don’t hesitate to ask questions.

As much as this is a time to mourn and remember, this is also a time to stand up and stand strong as a community, to make ourselves seen and heard, and to fight back. Bring your signs, bring your flowers, bring your anger.

Image descriptions are embedded and in the comments.

After the recent Conference of the Conservative party, we feel it is important to call out and hold our current government responsible for the Transphobic rhetoric and unfounded initiatives our parliamentary majority wish to take. Join us as we call for the government to do better. We cannot stay silent while they target the vulnerable and dodge responsibility.

LGBTQ+ Campaign’s Statement on Sarah Jane Baker

[ ID: there is a painted pink background with a little blue paint here and there. the LGBTQ Campaign logo is in the bottom left corner. The final slide has a picture of Sarah and "Free Sarah Jane Baker". The first two slides are titled Statement on Sarah Jane Baker. Main text includes: Oxford SU LGBTQ+ Campaign stands in solidarity with Sarah Jane Baker. Sarah is a female trans activist and violinist who has endured 30 years in a man’s prison, where she was regularly assaulted by other inmates, deadnamed by prison staff and refused access to healthcare (1). On the 8th of July 2023 Sarah, along with members of this campaign and 50,000 others, took to the streets of London for trans pride to demand a better world for trans people. She spoke in righteous anger with a call for community self defence. In a climate of rising transphobia across the political spectrum and what we as a campaign consider to be a violent crackdown on free speech, the home secretary, Suella Braverman, successfully pressured police into arresting her for this statement, bringing her back to prison. Sarah is a political prisoner of the British state, and this campaign calls for her immediate release and any and all charges relating to the statement made at London trans pride to be removed.
