We are delighted to welcome Dr Margaret Heffernan, our newest Bynum Tudor Fellow, to deliver her inaugural lecture at Kellogg: Beyond Determinism and Submission.

How can we help create a more accessible and inclusive University community for people with visual impairment?

Helen Young, Deputy Head of the University’s Disability Advisory Service, will be interviewed by Professor Susan Downes, Director of the Oxford Kellogg Vision Centre.

We are delighted to announce that author, entrepreneur and influential thinker Dr Margaret Heffernan has been elected to a Bynum Tudor Fellowship, the highest honour Kellogg College can bestow.👏

Margaret is an acclaimed author and Professor of Practice at the University of Bath, whose work explores leadership, decision-making, uncertainty and human creativity. Her seven books include Willful Blindness, Uncharted and, most recently, Embracing Uncertainty. 📚

Margaret will mark her Fellowship with her inaugural lecture, ‘Beyond determinism and submission’, at Kellogg on Wednesday 28 October.

Introducing Mercy Ndanu Musembi, a Mastercard Foundation scholar, at the University of Oxford.

Mercy Ndanu Musembi, from Kenya, will study for an MSc Water Science, Policy and Management at the Oxford School of Geography and the Environment at the University of Oxford and will be a member of Kellogg College, University of Oxford. Before Oxford, Mercy studied at Technical University of Kenya and Kenya Institute of Management.

Mercy has worked in different capacities with West Nairobi Water and Sanitation Programme, Lake Victoria Water and Sanitation Programme, Technical University of Kenya, Kenya Education Management Institute and Wildview Adventures.

Last night, our Centre on Mutual and Co-owned Business held the Fourth Annual Rutgers-Oxford Employee Ownership Research Conference, bringing together leading international scholars and practitioners at Kellogg College.

The evening featured the 2026 Robert Oakeshott Lecture, delivered by Kellogg President Professor Jonathan Michie on ‘Good growth in every postcode: the role of employee ownership’.

We were also delighted to announce David Ellerman, Associate Researcher at the University of Ljubljana, as the winner of the 2026 Nigel Mason Award for Employee Ownership Research.

We’re pleased to share that Kellogg Fellow Professor Laurent Servais is leading a major national trial investigating newborn screening for Spinal Muscular Atrophy (SMA).

The five-year study will explore whether testing for SMA can be effectively and cost-effectively incorporated into the NHS newborn blood spot test, with a phased start ahead of national rollout from October 2027.

In a letter published in the Financial Times, Professor Jonathan Michie, President of Kellogg College, highlights the important role that mutual and employee-owned businesses can play in strengthening local economies and communities.

Drawing on recent research from Kellogg College’s Centre on Mutual and Co-owned Business, Professor Michie points to Newcastle Building Society as an example of how mutual organisations can invest in high streets, maintain face-to-face services and provide spaces that support local communities.
