This past weekend, we had quite a few events:

We took part in Wing Athletics, and cadets showed their pride! Everyone had a great time, and we enjoyed spending time with the whole Wing!

Cdt Smith attended a Part Task Trainer Day, and achieved his Bronze Wings Aviation Training Package. He said "The bronze PTT course was a fun experience in which I furthered my flight knowledge and also got to experience some manoeuvres on a part task trainer. I enjoyed spending the day with the great members of staff at 639 AGS!"

Sgt Oakley and Sgt Penu also attended a Regional Band Practice this weekend! Sgt Oakley said, "It was wonderful to learn some new songs and meet some new people across our region. This band camp has enabled me to play at a higher skill level than I already can play at and has taught me the importance of music in the ATC."

Well done everyone!

Recently, we had two cadets attend a shoot and receive their Blue Shot badges!

"The shoot was a really fun experience for me and Chahal, we had a refresher of our Initials Weapons Training and got to put our skills to the test for something you don’t do everyday, as well as meeting some great people. I’m looking forward to the next opportunity to do some shooting!" - CDT Smida

"In the beginning, I was a little nervous but also very excited. The staff were incredibly supportive and I ended up really enjoying my experience. I am very thankful for this opportunity and will definitely recommend it to other cadets!!" - CDT Chahal

Flying Officer Chad Hadley has retired from CFAV uniformed service after a 15 year career. After starting as a cadet in 2010 he worked his way up to Cadet Warrant Officer and held the role of Squadron Adjutant. He then served as OC for 5 years between 2020 - 2025 before stepping down to focus on being a dad to his twin daughters.

Our OC, Flt Lt Ferreira said “we are all very grateful for everything he has done on the unit, and I’m looking forward to continuing to work with him as he joins our Civilian Committee. Fg Off Hadley was a fantastic mentor and is still a personal friend, I’m very pleased to have been his successor”

For one final time, thank you for all you have done at 888 Sir!

Recently, the Training Flight cadets have been learning about the principles of flight, as well as core RAFAC knowledge such as uniforms and badges. They have also been working on team tasks with our MTA kits, which they really enjoyed!

Being one of the two 2ICs of our Training Flight, it is good to see them start on their First Class training, particularly their History of the RAF lessons. It is especially nice to see them have such a good time at RAF Cosford on their Training Day!

- CDT Smith

Here's what some of our newest cadets had to say about their experience:

My visit to the RAF Cosford Museum was both enjoyable and informative. I explored a wide range of aviation exhibits, tanks, and other vehicles, while also developing a better understanding of the history of the Royal Air Force and the geopolitical tensions of the Cold War. I had the opportunity to observe authentic historical military equipment, including helmets, gas masks, and even propaganda posters, which had been one of my favourite parts. One of the highlights of the visit was experiencing a 4D flight simulator, which was both immersive and exciting.
-CDT Nguyen

Cosford was a great experience, and it helped me improve my knowledge on planes, cadets, and how the uniform is presented. I liked how there were tonnes of interactions and knowledge everywhere you looked.
-CDT Perry

The Visit to the RAF Cosford Museum wasn’t a life-changing experience, however it did shape my perspective on Air Cadets. My first impression of the RAFAC was that it was just a strict and uptight community with a bunch of scary people. I stuck with this mentality for a long time until I went to RAF Cosford. The moment I stepped foot inside the Museum, I was engulfed with the rich history of the RAFAC and how far they’ve come from their first initial steps. That trip made me realise how grateful and proud I should be to be part of such an amazing community filled with, well, amazing people. In all honesty, I don’t think I’ll ever be able to relive that trip exactly because I can still go back to the museum, however I can’t remake the memories with my fellow cadets.

During the holidays, some of our cadets attended Easter Swynnerton! One of our newest cadets, Cdt Nguyen, spoke about her experience:

"I had a really enjoyable experience at Swynnerton, even though I was quite tired by the end of it. I took part in several new activities, starting with radio, forming a new sense of communication.
Then, I did field cooking, working in a group to safely make noodles and pancakes. In the afternoon, I worked with others to build a bottle rocket and design a protective case for an egg, which we was incredibly fun.
To finish the day, I practised first aid scenarios, where I applied the skills I had learned. Overall, I had a really fun time as a new cadet as it has really shown me how fun my experience as a cadet will be!"

Recently, we had another promotion at 888! After an interview with our Sector Commander, Sqn Ldr Morrison, Sgt Evans was promoted to the rank of Cadet Flight Sergeant.

Flt Lt Ferreira said, "I’m very proud of FS Evans, she has recently stepped up and into the role of NCO IC and takes the importance of drill, dress and discipline in her stride. She will thrive in the role of FS both at squadron and across the wider organisation!"

Congratulations FS Evans!
