What a fantastic day we had yesterday! Thanks so much to everyone for coming along to our community open day in celebration of 25 years of operations.

We were hugely excited to finally unveil our new control vehicle, a fantastic new resource at the teams disposal that was only made possible by the generous support of you, our supporters, as well as the generous ongoing support we receive from Drax and GreenPower.

We were so happy to unveil it with the help of Brendan O’Hara MP and chair of Scottish Mountain Rescue Moira Weatherstone. Our faithful mascot, Lora, was present for the occasion too, of course!

Thanks to every one of you for turning out, and a particular special thanks also to the amazing team at Sòlas Pizza for keeping us all fed all day. They are kindly going to donate £1 for every pizza sold to the team - a lovely and welcomed gesture.

Here’s to another 25 years of OMRT! more to come to celebrate this year, keep an eye on our socials for more.

Many thanks to Kevin McGlynn and Robert MacInnes photography for some great images of the day.

A very warm North Argyll welcome to HM Coastguard’s newly established Search and Rescue helicopter and crew seasonal base at Oban Airport (North Connel).

A significant amount of our rescue operations wholly rely on the vital services that SAR helicopters and crews provide, bringing team members to casualties in remote locations in a fraction of the time we could achieve on foot, as well as being crucial for our operations on Mull and the islands.

Looking forward to working alongside HM coastguard in the coming months.

Oban Mountain Rescue Team consists solely of volunteers ready to respond to emergencies in the wilds of Argyll and beyond, any time of day, in any weather, 365 days a year.

A local callout for the team last night. At around 5pm on Sunday we were tasked by Police Scotland to assist the Scottish Ambulance Service with an injured young person on Druim Mòr above Oban.

A dozen or so volunteer team members quickly arrived on scene, utilising the 4x4 capabilities of our vehicles. With the SAS' medical support and our own team medical professionals, we were able to promptly package the casualty and extract them with the use of our new all-terrain stretcher wheel, just a few hundred metres down some rough terrain to the waiting ambulance.

Our thanks to the locals on the hill for their assistance in getting us and our equipment to the scene.

Thank you.

Thanks to the endless generosity of our supporters, Oban Mountain Rescue Team are delighted to announce that we have reached our goal of raising £10,000 towards the replacement of our new bespoke, crucial search and rescue vehicle, our new Control Van.

We couldn’t be more thankful to each and every one of our supporters who have helped us hit this target. This news is particularly welcome at the end of a busy week for the team supporting our neighbouring MR teams with ongoing searches in mixed and challenging conditions.

We will be able to share some images of the new vehicle in action shortly once it is in full operation, but in the mean time, this is the final call to get your name on the side of the van! For £40.00, get your name, the name of a loved one or even the name of a local business or organisation on the side of the new vehicle.

The campaign will close at the end of this week - act now to ensure that your name joins us on every callout.
