WATKINS HOUSE 😁

The first tenants have now moved in and I would like to thank everyone who helped me and donated in my Mayoral year.

'Watkins House' has been named in honour of the man who helped to buy it

Teamwork at it's finest! πŸ’œ

It's been a real pleasure to support Carol and the team at Doorway Nuneaton with their 1st ever property purchase.

Last year we helped source the property for them, which was purchased using Homeless Link funding and an incredible Β£48,000 in fundraising by Cllr Chris Watkins during his time as Nuneaton Mayor. πŸ‘

We've also project managed the conversion and refurbishment works, taking the property from a 2-bed family home to a fully compliant 3 Bed HMO (House of Multiple Occupancy).

Doorway will now fully furnish the property and provide it as supported accommodation for 3 young people that have experienced homelessness in Nuneaton.

Thank you to everyone who helped me and everyone who donated to help us achieve this amazing goal for Doorway 😁

Our 2018-2019 Mayors Appeal

Our Aim in support of Doorway, Nuneaton

In the current climate, private rental costs are spiraling resulting in high upfront costs as well as fewer places to rent. We are struggling to help young people who simply don’t have the money required to rent. Consequently this is leading to more young people becoming homeless. Therefore, Doorway would desperately like to own a property to provide safe, secure accommodation for homeless young people in the Nuneaton and Bedworth area. This will be a massive help for these vulnerable young people as they won’t need to find a deposit to move in.

This will be a major factor in preventing local homeless young people from finding themselves on the streets. We would like the property to be shared accommodation with a homely atmosphere where they live with other young people to reduce social isolation. The bedrooms will be furnished and the property will provide an environment where they can grow and thrive. We hope the residents of Nuneaton & Bedworth will support the Mayors Charity appeal which will benefit both homeless young people and the local community as a whole.
