An update from our Borough Councillor Debbie Soloman - RBC about the proposed location of bus stops on the A52 as part of the new Spitfire Homes development.

Debbie and our County Councillor Roger Upton are working together on a proposal that better serves our community. If you wish to contact either Councillor, email [email protected]
or
[email protected]

Formal Objection to Proposed Amalgamation of Bus Stops on the A52
I have contacted the East Midlands Combined County Authority (EMCCA - Regional Mayor) asking them to take look at the bus stop proposals put forward by Spitfire Homes as part of the A52 development works.

There are some positive elements to the plans - in particular, the upgrade to the existing south-side bus stop near the Saxondale Drive junction is very welcome.

However, the current proposal would remove the existing north-side bus stop used by many Upper Saxondale residents and merge it with another stop further along the A52. In practice, this would mean an even longer walk for residents travelling to and from Upper Saxondale village - which is already around 950 metres from the current stop and includes the steep hill up Saxondale Drive.

I am concerned about this and accessibility, particularly for older residents or those with mobility difficulties.

I believe there is a much better solution and County Councillor Roger Upton agrees. Rather than removing the stop altogether, we are asking East Midlands Combined County Authority to retain the existing north-side stop and move it slightly eastwards so it lines up more closely with the upgraded south-side stop near the Saxondale Drive junction.

Importantly, this could be achieved with only minimal additional works and without affecting traffic flow on the A52.

We hope EMCCA will reconsider the current proposal so that public transport remains accessible and practical for Upper Saxondale residents.

I’ve attached an image showing the current arrangement, the Spitfire Homes proposal, and the alternative option Roger and I are supporting.

Anyone lost a tennis racquet? This one's been left at the tennis courts, with it being small possibly belongs to a child?

From Sunday 21st June, Nottingham City Transport will be serving Upper Saxondale with a few buses in the morning and in the evening, providing a direct route to Nottingham City centre via the Cropwells, Cotgrave, Tollerton, Gamston including Morrisons, and West Bridgford Central Avenue.

The route name is Green 12C, an offshoot of Green 12, which is replacing Green 11 that currently runs through Cropwell Bishop onto Nottingham.

From the new timetable, Green 12C will call at Upper Saxondale turning circle Mon-Fri 05:57, 06:30, 17:05, 18:05, 19:10 & 21:10, and Sat 06:55, 17:05, 18:05, 19:10 & 21:10. Taking about an hour to reach Nottingham.

Bingham Connect 833 service will still be running but the timetable will change to ensure it can connect with Green 12 in Cropwell Bishop to get passengers onto Nottingham outside of the Green 12C bus times to Upper Saxondale.

There’s more news about the changes across Nottingham City Transport services on their website: https://www.nctx.co.uk/june26change

If you know anyone who may wish to use Green 12, Green 12C or Bingham Connect 833 services but doesn’t follow our FB page or have online access, please let us know and we can print off the route map and timetables for them:

** Parish Council Events Team Planning Meeting Friday 29th May at 12noon in the village hall **

The Events Team are holding their next planning meeting with Councillor Phil Wigginton at the helm. There’s been a great response to the initial call for volunteers to help but there’s room for even more to be part of the team putting together an exciting programme of events for 2026/27.

If you’d like to be involved but can’t attend the Friday meeting, then contact Phil via text 07803 373108 or email [email protected].

And don’t forget this Friday it’s coffee morning 10:30am to 12:30pm so why not come along to the meeting a little earlier and treat yourself to a brew and cake.

Thank you!
