Eighteen members and friends enjoyed an excellent evening of bowls. Help and instruction was provided by three bowls experts, Jackie, Bruce and Pat who each oversaw one lane's activities. After an hour and a half and eight ends the standard had improved considerably. We then had refreshments, a buffet and a raffle. The winners were announced by Jackie who presented them with a trophy.

Thanks to Barbara James and to all who made the evening such an enjoyable success.

Below is the group photo with the first outing of our new Rotary feather banner. RA

Last Monday evening members welcomed John Wheatley as our guest speaker. John is endeavouring to create a Film Festival in Erewash. His idea is for groups of film makers to produce a short film of no more than 15 minutes which will be shown on a large screen in the High St of Long Eaton. It is hoped that the public will be encouraged to visit the town to view the films and afterwards use the cafes and bars which will bring revenue to these businesses.

To encourage participants a prize of £2,500 will be on offer to the winner, All films will be available on You Tube. Schools and local film societies will all be invited to take part. Long term it is planned to hold Comedy Festivals in the town. Those producing films will be carrying out community service in Erewash as payback. Obviously this project will require funding and John is asking local businesses and other organisations for contributions. A total of £7500 is envisaged to get the project started. President Keith Randall thanked John on behalf of the members and wished him well with this new idea to promote Long Eaton GM

Thirty eight members and guests attended the Slice of India restaurant to enjoy delicious Indian food. We were joined by members of Erewash Rotary Club and friends of SVP Kewal Athwal. This is our third visit and we were all warmly welcomed by the staff. The variety of food on offer ensures that everyone will find something to their liking. PP Rtn Barbara James held a raffle which made £200. President Keith Randell thanked everyone for attending. Secretary Rtn Pete Wern and SVP Kewal Athwell were thanked for organising the event and collecting the payments. Rtn Roger Alton was on hand to take photographs assisted by Rtn Andrew Mitchell from Erewash Rotary Club. GM

We have had a very busy couple of months with our Interactors, here are just some of our recent projects. We held our Rotary Young Chef Competition at the Long Eaton School, there were eight contestants and all of the dishes cooked tasted absolutely delicious, many congratulations to the winner Ren. Last March 2025, the Club's Sponsored Swim was for a borehole in Uganda which raised £2,853. We are delighted to say that this project is now completed. This years' sponsored swim was in aid of the Canaan Trust, thanks to everyone for their support, special thanks to Robert Ellis Estate Agents for hiring the pool. Our Brackenfield Interact Club took part in a very active woodturning morning. They produced some very impressive bespoke items!

Gone to the Dogs

22 Members and guests gathered at the Nottingham Greyhound Stadium on Friday, Feb 27th, to enjoy an evening of dog racing. The weather was awful, but the dogs did not mind. A three-course meal was enjoyed while betting on the Tote. The venue was extremely busy, but there was ample staff on hand to provide drinks and take your bets!

A good time was had by all, and hopefully not all the money went to the Bookmaker. Thanks must go to Rtn David Kent who organised the evening. GM

David Kent once again organised our three store collections this year, at ASDA, Tesco and Trowell Garden Centre. Well done and thanks to him and all the helpers who assisted.

Thanks to the generosity of the Christmas shopping public almost £1,000 was raised between the three. Gift Aid of 25% can also be claimed in due course. Thanks too to the three stores who were so welcoming to us and our fundraising efforts.

All monies raised from Long Eaton shoppers will be distributed to local charities and organisations. A list of our giving last year can be found on our website. RA
