⚠️ NHS SERVICES FACING SUSTAINED PRESSURE

Residents across Nottingham and Nottinghamshire are being urged to choose the most appropriate NHS service as urgent and emergency care services face significant pressure.

Accident & Emergency departments are seeing very high attendances and long waiting times. Services are also managing high levels of ambulance arrivals and increased demand linked to factors such as recent hot weather, which has particularly affected older and more vulnerable people.

Hospitals are taking additional steps to maintain safe care, including reopening winter ward capacity. Urgent Treatment Centres and ambulance services are also experiencing sustained demand, with staff working hard to prioritise the most seriously ill patients.

This week Nottingham CityCare is celebrating National Volunteers week. We wish to recognise, celebrate and thank all of our incredible volunteers for all they contribute to our organisation and local communities.
Since launching our volunteering service in 2023, we have grown to a fantastic team of 30 volunteers, who have collectively contributed over 1,500 volunteering hours. This is a remarkable achievement, and we are incredibly grateful for the time, energy, and dedication our volunteers bring to our services.

CityCare celebrates first cohort of People Management Essentials programme

We are celebrating the successful completion of the first cohort of its People Management Essentials programme, designed to support new managers to develop the confidence, skills and mindset needed for effective and compassionate leadership.

The programme uses a flexible blended-learning approach, combining face-to-face workshops, online learning and self-directed reflection. It gives participants the opportunity to explore key management and leadership topics, learn from peers and build practical skills they can apply in their day-to-day roles.

Participants said the programme has helped them feel better equipped to support their teams across a range of situations, including wellbeing conversations, supervision, performance and appraisals, while also strengthening their awareness of inclusion in the workplace.
Participants said:

“The course has really helped me see how I can develop the skills to become a more effective leader within my team.”
“The programme has had a significant impact on my personal and professional development. It has equipped me with practical leadership tools and enhanced my confidence to lead effectively in the NHS.”
“A very insightful course.”

Sarah Andrews, Programme Lead, said: “It has been incredibly rewarding to work with this group and see their development. By supporting our managers to grow in confidence and capability, we are also strengthening the support they can provide to colleagues and, ultimately, the care we deliver to patients.”

We’re proud to share our Social Impact Report 2025–26, highlighting how CityCare is making a difference in communities across Nottingham and Nottinghamshire.

The report shows how our teams go beyond delivering NHS care — helping people stay well at home, reducing health inequalities, supporting people in crisis, tackling loneliness and creating opportunities through apprenticeships and employability support.

It’s all part of our commitment to improving health and wellbeing locally.
