From 1st September to 20th November Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service are aiming to travel 40,000 kilometres - that’s the equivalent of going around the world in 80 days.
The crew at Misterton Fire Station were off to a great start, but with just 11 personnel, we’re already starting to slip down the leaderboard. So we are asking all our followers, across all our communities (and beyond) if they would be generous enough to donate their kilometres. Whether walking (with or without a dog), running, swimming, cycling, rowing or even horse riding your Ks will matter. Just click on the link and record your distances in kilometres and you will be joining the hundreds of NFRS staff and supporters as we aim to nip around the world and come back on ourselves.

As many of our followers are aware, firefighters from Misterton have been attending medical emergencies, across our local communities, for over 20 years now and we have recently renewed our agreements with East Midlands Ambulance Service to continue this life saving partnership into the future.
Part of this renewal saw firefighters receive an additional 2 full days of medical responder upskilling and driver training for the medical response vehicle based at the Station.
Our medical CoResponding role remains in support of and resilience for, our colleagues in the Five Villages First Responders (Misterton) who continue to utilise the fire station for meetings and training etc.

We're pleased to continue our co-responder partnership with East Midlands Ambulance Service.

The renewed agreement means specially trained on-call firefighters from East Leake Fire Station and Misterton Fire Station can continue providing early support at certain medical emergencies when available, helping patients in those critical first moments before ambulance crews arrive.

Working together, we're committed to supporting our communities and making a difference when it matters most 🚒🤝🚑

Everyone knows that firefighters fight fires (the clues in the name 😂) and rescue cats from trees 🙄 But along side that and all the other incidents they attend (RTC, rescues from height, water, confined spaces, Hazmat and environmental incidents, the list goes on......) firefighters are trained in first aid which is often called upon at all the other incidents they attend.
Misterton's firefighters are trained to Frec 3 level in first aid with additional trauma training bolted on. We are also trained to recognise many medical emergencies such as heart attacks and strokes and the crew have access to a range of first aid equipment on our vehicles.
Misterton's crew work closely with East Midlands Ambulance Service at many types of incidents and we have a long standing partnership with Five Villages First Responders (Misterton) who share the station for training.
Our commitment to helping to save lives also extends to the Community Defibrillator that is available from the front of the station.

Last week we said goodbye to one of our crew, Dan, who has been at Misterton for a little over 21 years. He was presented with some gifts, and his 20 year service certificate, and it was a pleasure to welcome Dan and family to the station to reminisce, and of course enjoy some tea and cake, as is standard! Best of luck in the future Dan.
Talking of fond farewells, we have also recently exchanged pagers. Some members had become very attached to their old pagers 🫣 but the new and updated ones have been working very well for us, and going off regularly too 📟 They certainly get us out of bed quickly anyway! 😯 📢
Indeed that was the case early this morning, as we attended a vehicle fire in the local area, assisted by Gainsborough Fire Station - thankyou for the help!
This was just one of many jobs we've had recently, but hopefully with some rain things will be a bit calmer. All in a day's work for the Misterton crew!

On Monday night we were mobilised, initially to cover Retford Fire Station as they were called to a large local incident, however on route we were requested to attend the same job as it continued to escalate. Unfortunately on arrival we found a carpet shop well alight with the fire spreading to nearby buildings - a devastating loss for all concerned but thankfully nobody was hurt. However this meant a very long night for our crew of 4 as we assisted many of our Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service colleagues in tackling the fire.
A quieter few days did however follow, before an early morning wake up call to assist our East Midlands Ambulance Service colleagues on Sunday, with again thankfully nobody seriously injured. We will be back at it training tonight with our regular drill night 😁

A worthwhile Saturday morning drill in the sunshine today!

We trained with chimney gear, pitched a ladder, did a BA drill including a partial set removal and checked some new equipment. That was after a 6am call out which thankfully turned out to be a false alarm 📟
What a beautiful day for it too, we hope you are all enjoying the lovely warm weather 👌

Smoke alarms save lives – it really is that simple.

In the UK, it is estimated that you are between 4 and 12 times more likely to die in a house fire without a working smoke alarm, compared to those properties equipped with working and correctly sited smoke alarms. Without a working alarm, you have no early warning, dramatically increasing risk. Fires can spread rapidly, often filling a home with smoke in minutes – especially at night when you’re asleep.

That’s why having working smoke alarms on every level of your home is essential.

✔️ Test your alarms once a month
✔️ If applicable, change the batteries regularly (or when you hear that warning beep)*
✔️ Never remove batteries without replacing them
✔️ Keep alarms dust-free and unobstructed
✔️ Plan and practise an escape route with your household

Remember: smoke alarms don’t prevent fires – they give you the time you need to escape.

It only takes a few minutes to check your alarms today, but it could save your life tomorrow.

*The smoke alarms fitted by us do not have a changeable battery and have a 10 year lifespan but they should be changed if they are beeping, and of course checked regularly - please get in touch if you have any concerns.

March proved to be another busy month for the Misterton gang with our very successful charity car wash, some additional training courses and plenty of incidents too. We've supported colleagues from Lincolnshire Fire and Rescue, Gainsborough Fire Station and East Midlands Ambulance Service at some of these incidents and fitted smoke alarms in lots of properties across our local area, as well as offering valuable safety advice to their occupants.
At the beginning of the month we also visited our joint control room in Derbyshire - massive thanks to green watch for accommodating us. It was a very worth while visit, giving us a greater insight into the way calls are handled from the public and then how those calls are transferred to us with a pager alert 📟
