Friends of Colwick Woods Local Nature Reserve

Friends of Colwick Woods Local Nature Reserve Colwick Woods Nature Reserve is one of the oldest areas of woodland in Nottingham city, home to ancient trees and diverse animal and plant life.

A not for profit, community driven nature conservation group working in partnership with Nottingham City Council to maintain, protect and enhance Colwick Woods Nature Reserve. The Friends of Colwick Woods have been working with Nottingham City Council for almost 20 years to protect, enhance and promote Colwick woods as both a sanctuary for nature to flourish and a space for the community to enjoy.

As a volunteer organisation, we carry out essential practical work including litter-picks, tree planting, path maintenance, habitat improvement, woodland management, species monitoring and ensuring a safe space for both people and wildlife. The Friends of Colwick Woods welcome you to enjoy this truly special place. We invite you to join us as a member should you wish to be part of ensuring the safety and security of this woodland for future generations and the animals that call it home.

Another fantastic week of nature observations! Thank you to everyone who has submitted records - every sighting helps us build a diverse picture of the wildlife and biodiversity at Colwick Woods.

A lovely morning for our bird walk today! We heard plenty of wrens, blackcaps and even some warblers hidden amongst the fresh spring leaves. They were definitely feeling elusive, but the woodland was full of birdsong.

We did manage to capture a robin from its best angle… along with an action shot showing off its predatory skills. Apologies to the unfortunate caterpillar involved 🐛

We also spotted a jackdaw happily bopping along through the meadow smelling the grass and looking for bugs

Our wonderful stewards have been getting creative making natural bird feeders from wooden logs, filled with peanut butter and oat flour to give our feathered visitors a tasty treat during nesting season!
