Norfolk County Council Flood & Water Management Team are making it easier for citizens to report flooding incidents and stay up to date with flood prevention news, advice and community consultations through social media. Surface water flooding, after sudden & heavy rainfall, happens very quickly. The better the evidence collected as it happens, the faster and more comprehensively our investigation
team can identify and understand its cause and effects and propose preventative measures to reduce the likelihood of it happening again. People can help by photographing or videoing the flooding as it happens. It is especially helpful if this can show where the water is coming from, the direction of its flow and the full extent of where it accumulates. However caution is advised. “Fast moving or deep water is extremely dangerous. Nobody should put themselves in an unsafe situation in order to take images and film for this purpose.”
It is helpful to provide as much description of where exactly the flooding took place, the date and time. This helps to correlate it with scientific rainfall data which is measured across the county, which in turn helps build an understanding of the significance of the rainfall event.
