People across the country are turning to the Liberal Democrats as the only party that can stop Reform and elect strong local community champions.

We focus on church roofs, sewage and the cost of living, not copying the Trump playbook of divisive populism.

We think Malton and Norton have the potential to jointly become the first Town of Culture. We are asking you to contribute your ideas to help us build our bid.

How could we celebrate the heritage, culture and creativity of our communities in the two towns?

Are you a cultural or community-based organisation, or a local business that would like to be involved and help to shape the programme?

Please take some time to respond to this online survey. It takes just 4-5 minutes to complete. The closing date is 9th March 2026.

What is Town of Culture?

The Department for Culture, Media and Sport launched the Town of Culture competition in early 2026. The first stage is an Expression of Interest by 31st March. Shortlisted towns in each category will then receive £60,000 to help them design their full bid. The winning town will receive £3million to deliver a cultural programme in 2028. Two finalist towns receive £250,000 each.

A small steering group led by Malton and Norton Town Councils is developing the Expression of Interest. North Yorkshire Council will support any credible bids by towns wishing to enter.
