NATO Maritime Command

NATO Maritime Command MARCOM is commanded by British Vice Admiral Blount. In March 2013, Maritime Command Naples was officially de-activated.

NATO Allied Maritime Command (MARCOM) is the central command of all NATO maritime forces and the Commander of MARCOM is the prime maritime advisor to the Alliance. Located in Northwood, outside London, United Kingdom, is composed of a multinational headquarter manned by 300 officers, petty officers and civilians from all NATO countries. MARCOM was officially launched on 1 December 2012 to reflect

the NATO Heads of State’s decision to create a leaner and more effective command structure. This decision, taken at the NATO Lisbon Summit in November 2010, led to the largest reform in the Alliance since the end of the Cold War and reduced the number of major headquarters from 11 to 6. As a result, the two previous Maritime Commands located in Naples and Northwood have been merged into MARCOM in Northwood. 🇮🇹⚓🇲🇦 SNMG2 Flagship ITS Fasan conducted a port call in Tangier, Morocco.

After departing Tangier, ITS Fasan joined Royal Moroccan Navy frigate RMN Sultan Moulay Ismail for a PASSEX, including a series of interoperability and manoeuvring activities, strengthening coordination and the ability to operate together at sea.

This further demonstrates the cooperation between NATO and Partner Nations in support of regional maritime security.

Training never stops at sea! 🌊⚓

Following their departure from Hanko, SNMCMG1 conducted a towing exercise alongside FNS Vahterpää, sharpening essential seamanship skills and strengthen ties with our Finnish Allies.
Exercises like these help crews maintain operational readiness, enhance cooperation, and prepare for future missions.

Next stop: BALTOPS 26, one of the Baltic Sea region’s largest maritime exercises.

In the depths of the Baltic Sea, historic mines from two World Wars still pose a threat today.

NATO’s specialist mine countermeasure ships in the Baltic Sea are on patrol, seeking out and destroying these legacy mines and other explosives.

ENS Ugandi, serving with SNMCMG1, successfully neutralised a seabed mine using the Seafox mine disposal system.
Every mine removed in this way helps make the Baltic Sea safer for shipping, fishing, and all maritime activities, contributing to security and stability across the region.
