Northampton Art School for Young Artists is for young people who are in any year group between Years 3 and 11 who love making art and enjoy learning and developing new skills and experimenting with materials. It's an opportunity to grow in confidence as an artist and to spend time in a supportive environment with other young artists in an out-of-school setting. We focus on a variety of projects ov
er the year often starting with observational drawing and based around a theme. We then go onto developing original pieces of 2D and 3D Art using different materials and skills through a series of interesting challenges, so there's lots of variety. The best way to see what we do is to have a look through the albums section here on our community page. Each term we do a different project which starts with observational drawing and is based around a theme. We then go onto developing original pieces of Art using different materials/skills, so there's lots of variety. Students who are in Years 10 and 11 are given the opportunity to direct the projects in a more personal way for themselves if they want to; staying with the project theme, the materials being explored and the skills being developed but following their own path. Art classes are facilitated and led by Visual artist Clare Carney, a qualified Art teacher (BA Hons Fine Art and a PGCE – Art Teacher's Certificate). She has worked in Art Education for over 30 years and has a wealth of experience teaching in schools, leading community workshops and artist residencies with schools. She founded Northampton Art School for Young Artists in 2013 and is committed to leading high quality, safe, enjoyable student centred classes. Clare is registered with the Government's Disclosure and Barring Service and has an up to date enhanced DBR certificate. Classes are kept small with a maximum of 16 young artists and a mix of ages in each class. Commitment is for a half term at a time which is usually 5 weeks. The classes are an hour and a quarter in length and cost £14 each. If you're interested in booking a space for someone, get in touch.
