Libraries Week was envisaged as a welcome opportunity to celebrate our sector. Today, it is something even more critical: a platform for the entire library community to demonstrate our value, tell our stories and make the case for sustained investment and recognition.

The 2026 theme in the National Year of Reading is Libraries Change Lives through literacy and reading. This is the message in libraries across every sector - public libraries, school and academic libraries, those in national institutions - hospitals, commerce, law and government.

CILIP's Libraries Change Lives is our chance to shout about what we do from the rooftops, and for the profession to come together to celebrate, and to advocate for all our users across the four nations.

This week is National Volunteers Week and we're proud to recognise the contribution of our volunteers at Weston Favell Library 💛

We are extremely grateful to all of our volunteers who dedicate their time and skills to support our library, library staff, and the customers who visit it. 🤗

Our volunteers work tirelessly to keep the library tidy, to provide IT support and to assist with children's events and blue badge applications. Their support is invaluable. 🫶

Join Strong Start and Family Hubs West Northants at their free Introducing Solids Workshop in Kingsthorpe.

A friendly 90-minute session helping families start solid foods confidently, covering readiness, safety, recipe ideas and finger foods.
