Emergency services personnel past and present are set to be honoured at a flag raising ceremony this Wednesday (9 September).

Held to mark Emergency Services Day, the event will take place at The Guildhall in Northampton from 8.50am and will also feature a two-minute silence to remember members of the emergency services killed in the line of duty.

Representatives from the police and fire services, Office for the Police Fire and Crime Commissioner, St John Ambulance, NHS, Air Ambulance and First Responders will be among those in attendance, as well as Members from local councils and Deputy Lord-Lieutenant of Northamptonshire Hassan Shah.

Our latest Air Quality Annual Status Report shows that no locations recorded nitrogen dioxide levels above the national limit in 2025, marking another significant step forward in tackling air pollution.

Thanks to continued investment in cleaner transport, including 71 new electric buses and more than 3,000 planned EV charging points, four Air Quality Management Areas have now been revoked, with just three remaining across the area.

The free programme includes weekly walking challenges, step-tracking tools, group support and practical ideas to help people build healthier habits and stay motivated throughout September.

Suitable for adults with BMI of 30 or above (or 27.5 and above for people from Black, Asian, and Minority Ethnic backgrounds) who are motivated to improve their health, it is FREE to eligible residents.

🚨 150 people. One shared goal. Preparing West Northamptonshire for emergencies.

On Wednesday, our Emergency Planning Team brought together around 150 participants for Exercise Bivouac, a large-scale Reception Centre exercise hosted at the University of Northampton

The exercise tested how organisations work together to support our residents during an emergency evacuation, from registration and welfare support through to temporary accommodation and care for vulnerable people.

A huge thank you to everyone who took part, including our volunteers, observers, exercise control team, and partner organisations:

Rapid Relief Team UK
REACT Disaster Response
Northants 4x4 Response
Northamptonshire Children's Trust
Northants Emergency Welfare Group
West Northamptonshire Council Housing Team and our Reception Centre Volunteers

From setting up the reception centre and registering evacuees, to providing food, welfare support, accommodation advice and transport logistics, every organisation played a vital role in making the exercise a success.

Exercises like this help ensure we're ready to support residents when they need us most.

Happy 30th anniversary to one of West Northamptonshire’s most popular heritage attractions.

Chairman of the Council Cllr Fiona Baker was delighted to join guests including Deputy Lord Lieutenant of Northamptonshire John Griff, Deputy Mayor of Northampton Cllr Enam Haque and Stuart Andrew MP for the celebrations at Northampton & Lamport Railway at the weekend.

Run purely by volunteers, it attracts more than 10,000 visitors a year.

The weekend’s 30th Anniversary Gala acted as a celebration of its history, the enduring commitment of its volunteers, and the support of local communities.

Visitors enjoyed live music, food and drink, craft and gift stalls, model railways, and a guest steam locomotive.

A Northampton business has been hit with a £40,000 fine for repeatedly dumping commercial waste illegally.

JLN1 Ltd, which operates Zizou Lounge and Zizou Express on Wellingborough Road, was ordered to pay the penalty following a successful prosecution by our Council.
