🚌 Queens Park Parade Bus Shelter 🚌

Following concerns raised about the condition of the Queens Park Parade bus shelter by the Thornton Park entrance, Cllr O’Connor has been assured that this shelter has already been identified for replacement due to its poor condition and is included within West Northamptonshire Council’s maintenance and renewal programme.

Unfortunately, ongoing supply chain issues affecting West Northamptonshire Council have resulted in delays to the delivery of replacement shelters. This means that installation is taking longer than originally anticipated.

We are hopeful that the new shelters will arrive shortly and that the replacement can be completed soon.

Thank you to everyone who has raised concerns, and to residents and bus users for your patience and understanding.

We hope to see the new shelter installed in the near future. 🚌

Former Methodist Church – Welford Road

Following concerns raised about the condition of the former Methodist Church on Welford Road, Cllr O’Connor has been in contact with the Methodist Church regarding the sale of the property and the current state of the site.

One of the main concerns has been the overgrown vegetation, which has been encroaching onto the pavement and affecting pedestrian access, along with the general appearance of the site.

Unfortunately, due to ill health, those who previously helped maintain the property from a local perspective are no longer able to do so.

However, a request has now been made for maintenance work to be carried out. The overgrown bushes are due to be cut back, and this work has already been booked.

There is also a weekly inspection of the site, with reports being provided to the office, for the situation to be monitored, so the Church are fully aware of the concerns being raised. They will continue to keep an eye on the site and ensure that the relevant issues are followed up.

Thank you to residents for bringing concerns to our attention.

🧹 Clean Up Kingsthorpe – Asda Overflow Car Park

We have been made aware of concerns regarding the current state of the Asda overflow car park in Kingsthorpe, following recent posts and photographs shared on social media.

A few weeks ago, Cllr O’Connor contacted the Store Manager after concerns were raised about bags of rubbish being dumped and an unpleasant smell coming from the rear of the clothing area in the overflow car park. There were also concerns about bags of clothing being left around the Green Clothing Bank in the main car park.

The main car park has since been cleared, and the clothing bank has been relocated to the overflow car park alongside the existing clothing bank.

Unfortunately, however, the original issue in the overflow car park remains unresolved. With additional bags of clothing now being dumped in the area, the problem appears to have worsened.

Cllr O’Connor has now escalated the matter to Asda Head Office and has also made West Northamptonshire Council aware of the situation.

We hope this can be addressed as soon as possible and will provide a further update when we have more information.

🅿️Parking Restrictions on the High Street – Residents’ Concerns🅿️

Residents have brought to our attention concerns about vehicles being ticketed while parked in the highway spaces on the High Street, behind the Texaco and adjoining the electricity substation.
We have made enquiries with West Northamptonshire Council, and it appears that the issuing of tickets is currently in line with the restrictions in place, with double yellow lines applying in this area.

However, we believe the situation needs an urgent review. Residents have been parking in these spaces for many years, and the restrictions have not previously been actively enforced.

Residents can also request that the restrictions are reviewed or lifted by completing an application to West Northamptonshire Council. If you would like a copy of the relevant form, please contact us and we can forward it to you: [email protected]

That said, the main concern remains the service road behind the Alexandra Terrace shops and the rear of the Library/Gallones. This is the area where residents have consistently raised concerns about parking, and we believe the existing parking restrictions need to be properly enforced.

We will continue to raise residents’ concerns with West Northamptonshire Council and seek a fair and practical solution that takes into account the long-standing parking needs of local residents

🧹💪🏻Clean Up Kingsthorpe - Keeping it Clean, Safe and Tidy🧹💪🏻

Our Chair, Cllr O’Connor, has been contacted over the past few years by local residents and the local Wombles regarding ongoing fly-tipping and the general condition of the block of retail units on Harborough Road, along with the parking and service area behind them between Bective Road and Yelvertoft Road.

West Northamptonshire Council’s Street Warden has made some progress over the past year, but unfortunately a number of issues remain, including fly-tipping, graffiti, weeds and general litter. These issues need the property owners to take action and, importantly, to put measures in place to prevent the problems from recurring.

There have also recently been reports of mice and rats, making it particularly important that the situation is addressed urgently.

West Northamptonshire Council’s Cabinet Member for Environment, Recycling & Waste, Cllr Nigel Stansfield, is fully aware of the issues and is leading on efforts to get them resolved. We encourage local residents to continue raising their concerns and pressing for action to ensure the owners take responsibility for clearing the site and keeping it maintained.

We also ask everyone to play their part in keeping Kingsthorpe clean, safe and looking its best.

If you spot an issue in your local area, please report it to West Northamptonshire Council using the online reporting service:

If you do not have internet access, you can call 0300 126 7000 or contact your local Ward Councillor, who will be happy to report the issue on your behalf.
