The skills that Royal Air Force Air Cadets learn can open doors to some fantastic careers across the public and private sectors, as well as within Defence.

Whether it’s aviation, engineering, technology, leadership or something completely different, cadets develop confidence, teamwork, communication, problem-solving and practical skills that employers value.

You never know where your cadet journey might take you. The possibilities are bigger than the cockpit.

Last week, North Region hosted a Gold First Aid Course at Holcombe Moor Training Camp, allowing senior Cadets to qualify as First Aid Instructors & Assessors, as part of the RAFAC progressive training syllabus.

Over the course of the week, cadets and CFAVs worked through practical training, instructional practice, assessment activity and professional development, resulting in an impressive set of achievements:

29 Ă— Gold Instructor First Aid Badges
29 Ă— Activity First Aid (Silver FA Badges)
29 Ă— Activity First Aid Assessors
29 Ă— AED Operators
23 Ă— Youth First Aid (Bronze FA Badges)
1 Ă— MOI Summative Assessment
1 Ă— Catastrophic Bleed (Med Mod 069) for a CFAV
More than 100 hours of CFAV Trainer, Assessor and Training Standards Assessor CPD

The Gold Instructor candidates have not only developed their own first aid knowledge and skills, but have also strengthened their ability to teach, assess and support the next generation of first aiders across the Region.

Corps First Aid Officer, Wg Cdr Molloy, reminded the cadets that this is a course which equips them with the skills to “save a life”, and thanked the Directing Staff drawn from across the Region for their professional and slick delivery.

Regional First Aid Officer, Sqn Ldr Roberts, reminded the Gold candidates that the course was about more than gaining a qualification. It was about “growing” — as an instructor, as a leader and as a person.

A huge thank you goes to the cadets, Directing Staff, instructors, assessors and support staff who made the week possible. The commitment, professionalism and teamwork shown throughout the course was exceptional.

Special Thanks also goes to Crew Manager Connor Whittaker & Red Watch at Hollins Fire Station Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service (GMFRS) & Senior Paramedic (Also Squadron Leader) Joe Lord of North West Ambulance Service NHS Trust for delivering some fascinating insights into the medical capability of their services, giving our Instructors the opportunity for Q&A & practical demonstrations.

These qualifications will now return to squadrons and wings across North Region, increasing local first aid training capacity and helping more cadets access high-quality, consistent first aid training.

Congratulations to everyone involved — an excellent week and a significant investment in the Region’s future first aid capability.

WHAT A WEEK AT RAF WADDINGTON!

110 cadets and staff from across North Region came together at RAF Waddington for an action-packed Multi Activity Camp, and what a week it was.

From inspiring section visits and museum tours to archery, sport, STEM, virtual flight simulations and drone flying, our cadets had an incredible range of opportunities to learn, explore and try something new.

One of the highlights came when Calvin Bailey MBE MP for Leyton and Wanstead, Minister for Armed Forces, Veterans and People, and Commandant Air Cadets both visited the camp, with some fantastic cadets from Trent Wing Air Cadets too!

Our cadets had the opportunity to meet both senior leaders and showcase some of the activities taking place, including virtual flight simulation and drone flying with specialist SMEs, including 692 RPAS Squadron, 642 Aerospace Ground School and 2 Flying Training School.

But a camp like this doesn't happen without an incredible team behind it.

A huge thank you to the fantastic RAF Waddington team for making our cadets feel so welcome throughout the week. The Station Commander regularly took time to visit the cadets and joined us for the Continuity Drill Competition, while the Station Warrant Officer and the brilliant Air Cadet Liaison Officer (ACLO) team were always on hand to support, encourage and help make the camp such a success.

We'd also like to recognise Sqn Ldr Simon Elliott, North Region Project Officer and Camp Commandant, alongside the camp staff team, for the huge amount of work that went into planning and delivering the camp.

Most importantly, our cadets have returned home with new experiences, new friendships and memories that will stay with them long after they've left RAF Waddington.

Thank you RAF Waddington. What a week!

Here's a snapshot of just some of the action... 📸

North Region is home to thousands of young people and adult volunteers across the North of England, all brought together by a shared passion for developing skills, building confidence and creating opportunities.

From flying and fieldcraft to cyber, STEM, music, sport, leadership and adventure training, our cadets are encouraged to challenge themselves, try something new and discover what they are capable of.

But North Region is about more than activities... It's about people!

It’s about the cadet who discovers a new confidence they didn’t know they had.

The volunteer who gives their time to help young people thrive.

The instructor sharing a skill they’re passionate about.

The squadron staff creating opportunities week after week.

Together, they make North Region what it is.

As we look ahead, we’re excited to showcase more of the incredible people, activities and achievements happening across our Region, while celebrating the contribution of our cadets, the adult volunteers, permanent staff, civilian committees and chaplaincy members who make it all possible.

North Region - Inspiring young people. Developing future leaders.
