Are you a parent or guardian heading somewhere with open water this weekend?
Please take a moment to read our water safety advice and share it with your family and friends.
Even on warm days, water can be dangerously cold. Always enter the water slowly, jumping or diving in can cause cold water shock.
Before going into the water, take a look around for safety equipment and be sure to follow any warning signs or flags.
Drowning can happen quickly and quietly, so always keep a close eye on children and anyone in your group when they’re in or near the water.
If you see someone in trouble, don’t enter the water yourself. Call 999 and ask for
the Fire Service if inland or the Coastguard if at the coast Encourage the person to float on their back, and if you can, look for nearby rescue equipment you can throw to them.
