Celebrating 85 years of the Royal Air Force Air Cadets.
A short look at Central & East Yorkshire Wing’s 85th Anniversary Parade at Ripon, marking 85 years of opportunity, service, and cadet experience.
From the pride on parade to the people behind it, this was a fitting way to recognise the past and look ahead to the future.

A superb and informative visit to Royal Air Force Coningsby recently saw cadets and staff from 1869 Middlesbrough Squadron RAFAC join 2394 East Cleveland Squadron RAFAC, 473 Hartlepool Squadron RAFAC, and staff from Durham Northumberland Wing Air Cadets for a memorable day behind the scenes.

While the planned BBMF element was unfortunately unable to go ahead, the group instead enjoyed the planned fascinating visit to 29 Squadron, learning more about the engineering, preparation and teamwork required to keep Typhoon aircraft mission ready at a moment’s notice. The visit also included an excellent opportunity to see Air Traffic Control operations from the tower, offering a valuable insight into the role ATC plays in keeping aircraft safe in the air.

The day was rounded off in style with a fantastic aerial display during a qualifying pilot practice, giving cadets a real sense of the professionalism and skill involved across the RAF.

Visits like these are a brilliant way to bring aviation to life, showing cadets the people, roles and teamwork behind frontline operations.

Today we recognise and thank a leader whose influence has been felt across the Corps, and here within North Region.

Throughout his tenure, his guidance, clarity, and unwavering support have helped shape the experiences of countless cadets and CFAVs alike. From the direction set at the highest level, to the opportunities delivered on the ground, his impact reaches every Wing, every squadron, and every individual who wears the uniform.

As a Wing within North Region, we have directly benefited from that leadership. The standards set, the vision shared, and the support given have enabled us to grow, adapt, and continue delivering for our cadets.

On behalf of Central & East Yorkshire Wing, we extend our sincere thanks for your service, your leadership, and your commitment to the RAF Air Cadets.

We wish you all the very best for what comes next.

🥾 ANNOUNCEMENT: The New DofE "Virtual Expedition" Category ⛺🛰️

In a major update for the 2026/27 season, the Royal Air Force Air Cadets is excited to announce a new alternative for the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award expedition phase: The Virtual Reality (VR) Hike.

Recognising that UK weather isn't always "cadet-friendly," the DofE has approved a pilot scheme for the RAFAC only, allowing units to complete their Bronze and Silver expeditions entirely from the comfort of their unit HQ.

How it works:

• The "Hike": Cadets will walk on the spot for 6 hours while wearing VR headsets programmed with "Lake District: Rain Mode."

• The "Campsite": Tents must be pitched in the corridor and stoves replaced with a shared microwave to simulate "authentic" field cooking.

• The "Heavy Pack": To ensure the challenge remains, cadets must still wear a 65L rucksack containing a minimum of four bricks and a wet sleeping bag while in the VR simulation.

• The Assessor: Will be replaced by an AI-generated officer who will periodically appear in the headset to ask “Are you sure you aren't lost?"

Sign-ups for the first "Indoor Bronze" intake open on the Cadet Portal at 11:59 today.
