Mount Grace Priory, House and Gardens

Mount Grace Priory, House and Gardens Set amid woodland in North Yorkshire, this unusual monastery is the best preserved Carthusian priory in Britain.
(313)

Mount Grace Priory is the perfect tourist attraction for a relaxing and peaceful day out. Discover how the monks lived 600 years in the reconstructed monk’s cell and herb plot. The crumbling masonry and open grassland have become home to a collection of wildlife that has taken advantage of what previous owners, including the monks, left behind. The famous priory stoats inhabit the passages under Mount Grace and are possibly the best-known colony of stoats in Yorkshire and even the British Isles.

At Mount Grace Priory, conservation is an essential part of caring for the Manor House and its historic collections. Many of the objects we look after are valuable, fragile, and made from organic materials such as wood, textiles, leather, and paper - all of which can be vulnerable to pests, dirt, light, and damp.

Alongside conservation work, general cleaning also plays an important role in ensuring the Manor House remains welcoming and beautifully presented for visitors.

Through careful monitoring, preventative conservation, and daily care, we help preserve Mount Grace Priory’s collections for future generations to enjoy ✨
