👀 CR2 taking shape! It's not 100% accurate, but sacrifices have been made in order to be a working model. A few more details to add, then we can start on the main attraction, the CrARRV!!!

A little bit of time has been spent on the motor layout. Just in the planning phase at the moment, but it's looking like we can mount the motor (in yellow) and the 50:1 planetary gearbox (in red) in a direct drive fashion to the final drive sprocket. Its all theory at the moment, but half the fun is in the prototyping!

Double top roller design started, using the same 22mm Skateboard bearings as the rest of the drive train. Need to add the Baz plate Support arm underneath next, it should also be suitable for the single top roller. (Obviously with one less roller) 😉

The first time we have put all the designed components together. We have over 700 M3x60mm machine screws to put all the track components together. So that will be a fun job!
Double and single top roller brackets to design up next, then we will be putting a bit more work into the Hull design. We will be using the CR2 tracks for both the Challenger 2 and CrARRV, not strictly scale, but designing and printing CR1 running gear wouldn't really be cost effective for us.

The initial design for the track tensioner is complete, using a M4 Allen bolt to provide the adjustment.

First test print of the final drive sprockets went well, I'm 90% happy, M2 machine screws really finish the look. Next is a few tweaks of the track design and then a full engagement check of the links to the sprocket.

Track clamps are taking shape and have been added to the print queue. We'll have an update shortly with the sections of track ready hopefully.

After a lengthy hiatus from posting, be assured the work continues behind the scenes, it's been a busy period over the last 14 months or so. We are a fully committed British Army Unit, and this project has had to take a back burner.

This is where we are now, final drive sprockets designed in CAD and now the files have been sent to get a trial print. Watch this space!

Thank you to all those who have followed the page!

No, we haven't been hoarding loo roll over the last lockdown, these are some of the billets we have machined ready for the next load of road wheels.

Each one will be knurled before the boring part. I don't mean it'll be dull and uneventful (but it will), the centres will be bored out to the final shape.

There is enough material here to make one set of running gear, so this will need doing all over again!

Thank you for your support, and please give us a like and a share!!

We have been dragged into the 21st century here at REME Scale Tanks. The first wheels are a simplified scaled down version of road wheels (we are aware that CR2 and CrARRV road wheels are actually different)

Now these have been prototyped to prove that we have the tooling to actually manufacture these in house, we have moved to the virtual space.

We have begun to render them in 3D using CAD. The main reason for this is so we can use 3D printing to create the components needed to add a little more scale accuracy. The secondary reason, is that we can build the next components in the assembly (the swing-arms) virtually too, so we can run a few designs without needing to step in the workshop.

Stay tuned, thanks for following, and as ever, give us a like and a share!

It's been a busy week here at REME Scale Tanks. In addition to our project build, we all hold full time positions at 4 Armoured Close Support Battalion REME and 3 Armoured Close Support Battalion REME. Pictured is a visitor from The King's Royal Hussars. We have also been steadily moving forward with the project like a..., well, like a tank. Pics to follow!
