❌ Frustrating news this morning: Funding for the proposed Zebra Crossing outside Marden High on Hartington Road has been cancelled. I’ve already contacted the school, and I am incredibly sorry this has happened.

With the government just announcing £5 Billion for local sustainable transport, people will rightly wonder how this fits together. The truth is, the issue here isn't a lack of cash—it's that the engineering and design for this specific spot turned out to be more complex than the engineers had anticipated.

I had a lot of reservations about the crossing design and location, but it at least offered some progress. Councillors don’t get to design streets but I remain convinced that something a lot better and more transformational for the area near the school is possible.

Losing this project & funding sounds very final and dramatic but to try to look at where we are positively, there is I think an opportunity to push for something better.

As the saying goes, "shy bairns get nowt." I’ll be spending the next few weeks putting serious pressure on the council to get this sorted properly. Watch this space. 🛑🚶‍♂️

Jo Cox's legacy should be a light in divided times. Ten years ago today, an MP was murdered while doing her job.

That our politics is sadly more divided than ever should be a warning to us all.

We must remember her and her words: “We are far more united and have far more in common than that which divides us".

To support active travel in North Tyneside, our Sustainable Transport team are proposing to install cycle stands at some new locations around the borough 🚲

Suggest locations that you think should have cycle parking in the area here- https://haveyoursay.northtyneside.gov.uk/cycle-parking 📍

Some folks in North Tyneside have apparently “spoken to the council”, had national planning rules explained to them, and are now claiming they’ve been "told not to fly flags" or that "council patrols are issuing fines."
Let’s be entirely clear: This is politically motivated rage bait. ❌
The Reality:
The Rules: National rules are incredibly broad. They do not stop you from doing anything a reasonable person would do on their own property.
The Council: North Tyneside Council is busy running actual services and dealing with real-world problems. They are not patrolling the streets looking for your St. George's Cross.
If you want the actual facts instead of Nextdoor drama, check the official guide here:

Can’t quite believe I’m having to type this out in 2026, but here we are. 🤦🏼‍♂️ Fly your flags, support the team, and ignore the trolls.

We're incredibly proud to support this year's Armed Forces Day with a special commemoration event at The Links, in Whitley Bay on Saturday 27 June.

From 10:30am, the North Tyneside Pipe Band will lead a parade of veterans and members of the Whitley Bay Comrades Club from the roller park to the cenotaph for a special service and wreath laying ceremony.

Following the service, attendees and members of the public are warmly invited back to the Comrades Club for refreshments before cadet sporting activities begin, including:

🏅 Kim’s Game
⛑️ First Aid
💪 Shuttle Run
🚣 Rowing Machines
🪵 Planks and Barrels

There'll be food and refreshments available. Come along as we honour and celebrate our armed forces personnel in North Tyneside.

Jimi Hendrix famously came to Tynemouth for Fish & Chips at Marshall’s in 1967, now it turns out Mike D came to Riley's Fish Shack before his gig in Shields. History repeats itself, seafood & beaches, musical legends seek out the best….

Sounds fun in Shields 👇🏻
