This morning John and Liam joined council officers for one of our regular ward walkabouts to raise a number of issues residents have been contacting us about 🌳

We started on Hawkey’s Lane, where we pressed again for a full resurfacing scheme, a new zebra crossing and action on the w**ds, which seem worse than ever in this area 🚗

We then headed to Preston Grange to push for progress on the long-awaited Malvern Road roundabout and to check on works to cut back overgrown bushes around Morrisons, which we recently secured 🌲

Lots of progress has been made and a number of additional jobs were picked up during the morning.

We’ll post a full update on the Malvern Road roundabout later this weekend ✅

☕🥪 Supporting Local Independent Businesses

John was delighted to visit Uncle’s Panuzzo & Sandwiches in North Shields today 😊

The coffee was excellent, the sandwiches were absolutely superb, and it is clear that a huge amount of care and passion goes into everything they produce. It is always great to see local independent businesses bringing something different to our area and helping to make North Shields an even better place to visit 👍

Small businesses are the backbone of our local economy. They create jobs, bring life to our communities and provide the personal service that makes shopping locally so worthwhile💪

If you have not been yet, John would thoroughly recommend paying them a visit. The quality speaks for itself.

Wishing the whole team every success for the future. 👏☕🇮🇹

Following requests from residents, we have secured a speed survey for Abbots Way.

The survey has now been added to the council’s programme of traffic surveys and is expected to be carried out over the coming months, with the results then analysed by officers.

Thank you to everyone who has raised concerns with us. We’ll share a further update once the survey has been completed and the findings are available.

🚧 Barrier repairs are taking place outside John Spence following the recent collisions in the area.

The damaged pedestrian barriers on Preston North Road are due to be repaired between 16 and 18 June.

Road safety remains a major concern for local residents. We will be meeting with council officers again this Friday to discuss safety improvements on Preston Road and to press for progress on the long-promised pedestrian crossings.

Keeping pedestrians safe, particularly around schools, must remain a priority and we’ll continue pushing for action.

🚲 Cycling Parking Consultation

The Council is asking residents to suggest locations where they would like to see additional cycle parking installed.

I’ve asked for further details, including how much this will cost and where the funding is coming from, and I’ll share that information when I receive a response.

In the meantime, I would encourage anyone who has a view to take part in the consultation and put forward any locations they think could benefit from more cycle parking.

You can take part here: https://haveyoursay.northtyneside.gov.uk/cycle-parking

🚸 Hawkeys Lane Zebra Crossing - What’s Your View?

Residents have contacted us about the possibility of installing a zebra crossing on Hawkeys Lane, outside the Methodist Church.

The council has indicated that it does not currently believe there is enough pedestrian usage to justify a crossing at this location. However, we want to hear directly from you on this issue.

Would you support a raised zebra crossing here?

👍 Yes - it would improve safety and make it easier to cross.

👎 No - there are other priorities or concerns.

💬 Please let us know your thoughts in the comments. We will feed back residents’ views to the council.

This week I met with council officers to discuss the ongoing parking issues around Preston Mews and Cleveland Road.

Following the meeting, residents in the surrounding area will receive a letter from us so that we can gather views on the proposed solutions before any decisions are made.

Parking problems can have a real impact on residents, and we want to make sure any changes work for those who live nearby.

If there are any other roads or areas in Preston and Preston Grange where you think parking restrictions, yellow lines or permit schemes should be considered, please let us know in the comments below 👇

🌿 W**d Treatment Update

The Council has confirmed that the first round of borough-wide w**d treatment is currently underway, with crews working ward by ward across North Tyneside.

We’ve already been in touch with officers about a number of locations residents have raised with us where w**d growth is particularly bad and have asked for these areas to be looked at as a priority.

If there are any streets, footpaths or public spaces in our area that you think urgently need attention, please let us know in the comments below and we’ll make sure they are passed on to the team. 👇🌱
