๐Ÿšจ๐Ÿ“Ÿ Callout 42 of 2026 ๐Ÿšจ๐Ÿ“Ÿ

This morning at 4:19 am, Tynemouth all weather lifeboat was tasked to take an unwell crew member off one of the Tyne tugs which was working on the river. The tug was not far from our lifeboat station so our ALB made the short hop and transferred the casualty to our lifeboat, before passing to an ambulance at South Shields ferry landing.

Early morning callout for our crews! If you need assistance by the coast dial 999 and ask for the coastguard.

Crew will be heading to Poole in the coming weeks to familiarise themselves on the boat, before she is passaged back to Tynemouth expecting to arrive on the 11th July.

Meet our new Man Overboard manikin, Fred Jr.

Fred Snr is looking a bit tired after deciding to go for a swim every time we go on exercise and many years of sunbathing infront of our station..

For our volunteers to be able to launch to rescue people like Fred Jr and Snr, we need authority to launch from someone independent of the crew going out to rescue him.

This is where the role of a Launch Authority comes in. The launch authority receives the request to launch from the coastguard, works out what crew are available and the most suitable lifeboat to launch, before our crews go and rescue people like Fred.

If this is something you think you can do, you can apply using the link below ๐Ÿ‘‡

Callout 36 of 2026

On Sunday 31st May, the second callout of the day was for our Inshore Lifeboat to reports of an upturned Kayak, with 2 persons onboard in the River Tyne.

Tynemouth ILB quickly raced to the scene and found the upturned kayak with no one on it. The kayak was quickly brought on board and the crew of the inshore boat searched along the pier for any potential casualties. After a short period it was confirmed by South Shields Volunteer Life Brigade (SSVLB) that the crew of the kayak were safely on shore.
These types of kayaks are not intended for use on the sea and we'd like to remind our followers that inflatables are intended for use in Pools or inland waterways.

This is the 19th callout for our crews this month, making it an incredibly busy month for our crews. If you need assistance by the coast, dial 999 and ask for the coastguard.
