We’re proud to support vital local services that make a real difference to residents across Newtown.

Thanks to council funding, the Citizens Advice Powys Newtown Advice Project has helped 83 local people this year access advice when they needed it most - often during times of real crisis.

In the last quarter alone, their team:

Secured over £27,500 in essential benefits for residents
Supported people facing urgent deadlines and complex cases

Helped reduce stress and improve wellbeing for some of our most vulnerable community members.

Across the year, they’ve helped unlock over £155,000 in vital income, much of it supporting people living with disabilities or long-term health conditions.

This is what partnership working looks like – practical help, delivered locally, changing lives.

Thank you to Citizens Advice Powys for the incredible work you do every day.

Free Public Wi‑Fi in Newtown Town Centre!

We’re delighted to announce that free town centre Wi‑Fi is now available in Newtown - a key milestone in the ‘Smart Towns’ programme.

Delivered in partnership with Powys County Council and funded by the UK Shared Prosperity Fund, this new service offers fast, reliable internet access across key areas of town.

Whether you're shopping, working, visiting or enjoying a coffee, staying connected has never been easier.

As well as improving connectivity, the network will help businesses and council better understand how people use the town centre through anonymous data insights like footfall and movement trends – helping shape future events, businesses, planning and investment. No personal data is collected.

Cllr Peter Lewington said:

“This is a significant step forward for Newtown. Free Wi‑Fi will help people stay connected while also giving us valuable insights to support a stronger, more resilient town centre.”

This is just one of many exciting projects helping make Newtown an even better place to live, work, visit and invest.

Coverage will be available in key areas, with more to come!
