Elrig (sometimes spelled Eldrig) is a tiny hamlet or, more aptly, a small 'clachan', situated near Port William, within the old parish of Mochrum in southwest Scotland. It is located in the Machars area of Dumfries and Galloway, approximately 1 mile from Luce Bay - our nearest beach is about a mile and a quarter. The climate is probably one of the best in Scotland. The street, for that's all that

there is to Elrig, has a telephone box (non-cash type), a post box and a community message board. The mobile library visits every three weeks, while the coalman and fishman visit weekly. Birthplace and one time home to Gavin Maxwell, author of books such as 'The House of Elrig' and 'Ring of Bright Water', Elrig was once a thriving community, complete with mill, smithy, school, shops and pub. Now, it doesn't even register on Facebook's locations, so I'm starting this page in the hope that, one day, it will.

I am delighted to say that artwork created in Elrig with driftwood from Port William beach is a prize winner at Chelsea In Bloom this week! The installation features my Ecoarts sculpture of Poseidon and two horses commissioned by Chelsea Heritage Quarter and is on display until May 24th outside the National Army Museum. The design was by Capel Manor College student Daniela Lane with a floral display by students supported by Head of Floristry Louise Quigley. The display has been awarded the Highly Commended Prize by the Chelsea In Bloom judges from a high quality entry of 145. You can still vote for the People's Champion until midnight on Thursday 21st May here: https://www.chelseainbloom.co.uk/participants-voting/chelsea-heritage-quarters/

I was the sent the following and we are wondering if this relates to the same Elrig:
"This is an old football jersey from around 1994. A few Scottish guys started this team, I assume they were from Elrig. The team was located in Guelph, Ontario, Canada. And we were champions. :-) "
