Did you know that you can find out what it’s like to be an Army Reservist in the Royal Electrical and Mechanical Engineers before you join? Our local Reservist Centres can welcome you in during their training evenings so you can come along and ask as many questions as you like.

You can get to know to know the whole team, and share their experiences by coming in for a chat. But here are some of our most frequently asked questions:

Q: Do I have to sign up for 6 years?
A: No. Your time is flexible as an Army Reservist. And in the unlikely event that you don't feel like it's for you, you can leave whenever you like.

Q: Do I get paid for my time?
A: Yes. You get paid for all of the time you’re able to put into the Reserves. And you’ll develop skills and have opportunities to travel, too.

Q: Is there a minimum commitment of days per year?
A: We offer annual rewards for those who give it their all, which offers even further earning potential. But if you can only spare a few days, then that’s fine, too. We understand that you have work and family commitments. And can work with you to make your career as an Army Reservist work for you.

To arrange a visit to your local Army Reservist centre, feel free to get in touch!

Q: What is your average Army Reserve Training Weekend?

A: We don't do average!

Back in June 2023, Members of 102 Bn REME conducted Company Level Training across the North East of England, Scotland and Northern Ireland.
Activity ranged between real life equipment support and repairs, Driver Training, Shooting and ranges. All our REME Reserve soldiers give up a bit of their free time, around their work and family to train and are paid to learn and develop new skills.

No two weekends are ever the same!

March 14 is International Ask a Question Day!

International Ask a Question Day takes place on Albert Einstein’s birthday (born in 1879). As part of what he stood for, this holiday focuses on the importance of curiosity, asking questions, and inspiring learning for future generations. The more people ask questions, the more likely they are to become great minds like Einstein was!

As we draw to the end of our current training year let’s take a look back at some of the amazing training opportunities our REME Reserve soldiers received over the last 12 Months.

Armour in the Dales is a popular community engagement event taking place in May over Catterick Training Area.

12 Reservists supported the North East Military Vehicle Club in real life support and recovery.
Cfn Jake Herron recalls the event;
‘I have attended this event annually and it’s always a fantastic opportunity to try out our trade skills and work on equipment we don’t always see. The Saturday was a good day across all trades, a CVRT went down with a gearbox issue so the Recovery Mechanics recovered the casualty and then LCpl bell & Sgt Gardner, our Vehicle Mechanics, conducted the repairs. Sunday was a big team effort to recover a stuck chieftain out of the mud and onto its low loader.
Overall a grand weekend with some top graft by a top team & all are looking forward to this years event’

Think you’ve hit what it takes to join our talented team of tradesmen and women?

Sgt Bruce John O’Groats to Lands end Challenge:

Here is a brief outline of the challenge so far:

Friday morning the band of merry runners lined up at the start line all 7 of us!!

Day 1 (Friday) was an eye opener I thought I was going slow but after 30 miles of running with Adrian from Germany I let him go at his pace!! At mile 40 I hit the dreaded wall!! Luckily Ex 102 Bn stalwart Gary Horsburgh for running the last few miles with me.

Day 2 (Saturday) was a slightly shorter route, but with the soreness starting to kick in the start was hard, but finally got into a rhythm and got to mile 22.5, the half way mark. Gary Horsburgh again ran with me to mile 31. I did well to get to the last check point 11 miles before the end, but the last 5 miles was very hard going. I still finished well inside the cut off time.

We wish Sgt Bruce all the best on day 3 of his challenge!

As Sgt Bruce starts to count up the miles on his epic challenge, we spoke to him on his journey up to John O’Groats on Thursday to ask how he was feeling about the days ahead, effectively running 2 marathons a day for 17 days! ‘I’m prepped as much as I can be, I’ve tried to prepare more mentally than physically but clearly done the long runs. Technically it’s only 16 as day 17 is only 19 miles!!’
He added ‘I thrive with pressure…I think! It’s definitely going to be a journey both physically and mentally’
We will be posting regular updates as he makes his way to Lands end. Please send lots of support!

Today the Recruitment team of 157 Coy REME attended the Lisburn and Castlereagh Careers Fair in Lisburn Omniplex.

It was an exciting day and we chatted with people from across Northern Ireland including Belfast, Craigavon and Newtownabbey.

The REME Reserves offer opportunities to serve part-time in a variety of technical roles within the British Army. This includes maintenance, repair, and support of equipment and vehicles. Reserve soldiers in REME gain valuable skills, leadership experience, and have the chance to contribute to the Army's operational capabilities while maintaining civilian careers.

Like to travel? It can be expensive. But what if you could travel for free, and get paid for your time? We travel all over the world. We are based in the North England, Scotland and Northern Ireland but in 2023 we’ve had members of our team travel to USA, Belize, France, Germany, Italy, the Falkland Islands and Kenya.

We have more travel opportunities lined up for the year ahead, and our soldiers get the very best training and equipment to deploy with. Along with plenty of downtime to explore.

Here’s what LCpl Hargreaves had to say about his last deployment to Belize: “I’ve always loved to travel. And I would never have thought to go to Belize. It’s an interesting and beautiful place. In our downtime, we visited the Mayan temples and spent a weekend on the nearby Island of Caye Caulker. It was a traveler's paradise, and we spent a day snorkelling by the reefs. I was swimming with huge Stingrays, Barracudas and Nurse Sharks. It was an awesome experience. Back at camp, we were in the workshop fixing up the fleet for Jungle training exercises. I’ve got loads of life-long memories just from that one deployment!”

If you have itchy feet, get in touch to see where we can take you.
