I'm not pointing any fingers as to why 😅 but we are running low on Purina One kitten biscuits again.

Although the majority of our hogs get a mixture of whatever biscuits we are donated, we use the Purina One's on our really sick hedgehogs as they are great for tempting them to eat when they don't really feel like eating.

If you want to support the work we do, donations of this food would be greatly recieved, I promise the Parrot doesn't actually eat them all, he just sneaks one or two when we are distracted dishing up the biscuits.

Purina One kitten biscuits are available in most pet shops, supermarkets, trago mills and online. They can be dropped off to any of our food collection points (see comments) or the rescue centre itself. Delivery from online needs to be shipped to:

We are approaching autumn, where in general our advice on hedgehogs is "out in the day, not okay". However, hedgehogs can still be pregnant, giving birth and nursing young throughout September so it is important to check with your local rescue before picking a hedgehog up (unless they are in immediate danger).

This hedgehog had been seen out in the day, luckily for her, the people who spotted her knew what to do. They qietly watched her from a distance, monitiring her behaviour and making sure she wasn't in imminent danger. Then they contacted us, their local rescue, to ask for advice.

In this case, as she is in good body condition and was moving with purpose, we suspect she is healthy and could be pregnant or have a nest in under this tree.

Good Evening,
Would you like to join the volunteer team at ELM?

We are looking for people to undertake husbandry duties within the rescue centre, this will entail cleaning cages, shredding, plus, weighing, feeding and monitoring the animals in care. The volunteer shift is from 10:00 to 14:00 (there is a break around 11ish with drinks, biscuits and sometimes cakes) depending on workload and we are open 365 days a year.

You need to be a physically able person over 18 who can read and follow instructions. Have a kindness for animals on how you treat and handle them. You also need transport to get to Seale Hayne, as there is no public transport. The volunteer group runs on Facebook, so you need to have a Facebook profile.

Volunteering for ELM is an important role, as ELM could not run without volunteers. We ask volunteers to embrace the importance of their role and to treat it with commitment and punctuality.

Ideally, we would like you to volunteer at least twice a month, but you are welcome to come as many times as you wish. 😁

If you go to the top of the main page and look in the "More" drop down folder, you'll find the link to the volunteer group. There is more than one question box to fill for access to the group (closed group), could you please fill in all the information requested.

Hopefully we’ll be seeing some of you as new volunteers.

🦔 That’s a LOT of fleas!

Hedgehog fleas (Archaeopsylla erinacei) are a species that is particularly associated with hedgehogs. They may occasionally bite other animals, but hedgehogs are their preferred host.

Not sure what I interrupted here 😂.

I was letting the dog out for his last wee and this one seemed to just be lying like this. I gently rolled it over, as I wasn't sure if it was okay, it proceeded to huff at me a run away. Hedgehogs are such entertaining and strange little creatures.

What's the weirdest thing you have seen a hedgehog doing?
