As HiVis Fortnight comes to an end, it’s a good reminder that reading doesn’t have to look one way.

During the National Year of Reading, Libraries NI is encouraging people to reconnect with reading in ways that work for them and fit naturally into everyday life. 😄

However you like to read, or even if you’re not quite sure where to start, your local library is there to help. Everything is free, and there’s always someone on hand to guide you.
Just call in and we’ll help you find what works for you. 📚

Before HiVis Fortnight comes to a close, there’s still time to catch our podcast episode with audiobook narrator Gerard Doyle.

It’s a great reminder that reading doesn’t have to look one way. Listening to a story can be just as powerful.

If you’re looking for something different, why not give audiobooks a try? They’re free to borrow through your local library and easy to get started with.

Take a few minutes to listen and see what works for you.

Icons on Ammo Boxes will be on display in Newry City Library from Monday 15 June until Friday 3 July - Call in during library opening hours to see it 🖼️

We are delighted to partner with Newry City Library to host Icons on Ammo Boxes, a powerful and thought-provoking exhibition by Kyiv-based artists Sonya Atlantova and Oleksandr Klymenko. 🎨🖌

Created in response to the ongoing war in Ukraine, the exhibition transforms ammunition boxes recovered from the frontline into striking works of art, turning symbols of conflict into messages of hope, faith and resilience. 🙌

📍 Newry City Library, Hill Street
📅 15 June - 3 July 2026

You don’t always go looking for conversation.

But it can happen.

A hello at the desk.
A quick chat in passing.
Seeing the same faces each week.

Libraries are shared spaces — places where people can connect in small, natural ways. 😃

We’d love to know if you have ever had one of those small, unexpected conversations in the library?

Need to convert text from an image or PDF? 🤔

Instead of typing it all out, you can use the converter function to turn it into editable text on a library computer using Read&Write. And if you’d rather talk than type, you can use dictation to get your ideas down quickly, then listen back to check everything sounds right. ✅

Small tools, but they can save time and make things feel a lot more manageable.

Not sure how to use it? There are short video walkthroughs available on the toolbar – just click the three dots to guide you through it. ⏯️

Available on all library computers, free to use. Just bring your mic enabled headphones (USB or standard headphone jack both work), log on to the library computer and give it a go. 🖥️
