During September, Welsh Water will continue working on Glasllwch Crescent, as part of their work to improve the water network in the Newport west area.

To facilitate this work, a road closure will be in place on Glasllwch Crescent during the following weekend periods:

• Friday 4 September, 7.30pm to Monday 7 September, 5am
• Friday 11 September, 7.30pm to Monday 14 September, 5am
• Friday 18 September, 7.30pm to Monday 21 September, 5am
• Friday 25 September, 7.30pm to Monday 28 September, 5am

This closure will be from the High Cross roundabout, to just past the junction of Glasllwch Crescent and Western Avenue.

Diversions will be in place and will be signposted.

There’s just one month to go until Newport Food Festival will once again bring the city centre to life for a day of food, drink and fun.

On Saturday 3 October, over 85 stalls will line High Street and surrounding areas offering a variety of food and drink to whet everyone’s appetite.

The chef demonstrations in the festival kitchen at Newport Market will bring together some of the best local culinary talent.

A draft document that will set out a planning framework for the city over the next decade is progressing to its next phase. The draft replacement local development plan will be considered by scrutiny committee, cabinet and full council this month before going out to public consultation later in the autumn.

This year, the council will consider some important issues including the deposit local development plan (LDP), which will be the framework for future planning decisions and a strategy for the city’s youth services sector.
But before any decisions are made, they will be discussed and analysed by our scrutiny committees.
Next Monday (7 Sept), the LDP will come before the place and corporate committee while on Tuesday (8 Sept) the people committee will discuss the youth strategy and the director of social services’ annual report.

🚨 Operation Krypton hits 200 arrests in Newport

Targeting crime. Tackling anti-social behaviour. Protecting communities.

Working alongside Newport City Council and other partners, officers have been tackling crime, anti-social behaviour and repeat offending across Newport, helping make neighbourhoods safer for everyone. The initiative has also seen stolen vehicles recovered, warrants executed and increased patrols in hotspot areas.
