You are likely to have heard that Sam Neill passed away today. As he was an inspiration to some of our guides, Felicity has written this to share:

“At 7:15 this morning we read that Sam Neill had passed away at the age of 78.

We’ve seen him in many films and programmes and he’s always fantastic but, to us, he will always be Alan Grant first and foremost.

I think I was about five years old when I first watched Jurassic Park. I was already obsessed with dinosaurs and so one Christmas, surrounded by my family, I was allowed to watch what would become one of my all time favourite films.

Yes, they took a lot of creative liberties with dinosaurs, but the thrill and the love of dinosaurs it inspired in so many people mean it’s a brilliant movie and Sam Neill was the perfect person to play the part.

There may be some tears but tonight I’m going to sit and watch this movie, that means so much to me. From a childhood obsession, to walking down the aisle on my wedding day to the Jurassic park soundtrack while a model triceratops stood to the side.

Thank you Sam Neill for portraying the love, fascination and respect so many of us feel towards dinosaurs.”
