A huge thank you to everyone who visited the Wee Anti-Racist Library last Saturday during the brilliant Beltane festival at Forgan Arts Centre 🔥

We were particularly moved and heartened by the visit from our friends over at the Anti-Racist Community Library, who made the journey all the way over from Woodlands Community Gardens. Their community library has been one of the main inspirations behind what we're trying to do here on Tayside, and our own wee community library wouldn't have got off the ground were it not for their encouragement and practical advice and tips, gleaned from over five years of experience. Be sure to check them out if you're in Glasgow on a library weekend! 💚

They also very kindly donated a copy of Jackie Kay's 'Red Dust Road'. This and a copy of 'Anti-Racist Baby', which was generously donated by another member of our community, will be available to borrow at the next Wee Anti-Racist Library. If you have any books which you think might be suitable for the library that you wish to donate, contact us here or at [email protected] 📚

We'll be back soon with more details of the next Wee Anti-Racist Library.

Book a place and come to browse the library between 3 - 5pm, alongside other activities in the garden.

We're really excited to add this powerful book to our selection of children's books at the Wee Anti-Racist Library.
In "Stand as Tall as the Trees", Kichwa leader Patricia Gualinga recounts how her community of Sarayaku, in the Ecuadorian Amazon rainforest, united to protect their territory - "Kawsak Sacha" ('the Living Forest') - against threats by the Ecuadorian state and oil companies.
Come and check out this and our other books at the next Wee Anti-Racist Library, next Saturday 4 April, 10am - midday, at Forgan Arts Centre.

It's great to be able to share this new Edible Estates study led by one of our co-founders, Anissa, titled “Growing Gardens, Building Communities. New Scots & Community Gardens”.

The report explores the role community gardens have in supporting New Scots to make connections, form bonds, & develop a sense of belonging within their local communities. It also highlights why community gardens should be included as an integral part of the ecosystem of services geared towards supporting & welcoming the arrival of New Scots in Scotland.

The study holds up community gardens as spaces where we can collectively challenge racism, engage in dialogue & build trust. By celebrating & strengthening our unity in diversity, we can build more resilient & inclusive communities. It is critical that community gardens receive more resources to continue this vital work.

As a community anti-racist project linked to the wonderful community garden at Forgan Arts Centre, we couldn't agree more.

What do you think?

The report was developed for Edible Estates in collaboration with the University of Edinburgh within the framework of Groundswell’s Community Innovation Fund.
