A fantastic day at Lamlash House with as we welcomed a lovely group of friends from Forfar for our Millers & Merchants Tour this week.

The day began with a fascinating visit to , where guests experienced one of Scotland's last working damask weaving mills and learned about the craftsmanship that continues to make Newmilns famous around the world.

From there, guests explored the rich history of Lamlash House, discovering the stories of the Victorian residents during lunch.

It was a pleasure to share the experience with such an enthusiastic group.

Our next tour takes place on Thursday 4th June and we have just 2 spaces remaining. We're also delighted to announce that bookings are now open for our summer tour on Thursday 16th July.

If you'd like to uncover the fascinating heritage of Newmilns and enjoy exclusive insights into its textile-making legacy and banking history, we'd love you to join us.

Book your place via the link on our website.

7 years ago today, Lamlash House hosted one of our most unique and memorable dining experiences — Victoria 200 👑

Created to commemorate the 200th anniversary of the birth of Queen Victoria, the evening featured a carefully researched menu inspired by dishes enjoyed throughout Victoria’s life and reign. From coronation-inspired duck pâté to Victorian curry recipes served in the Royal kitchens, every course told a story from a remarkable era.

Held in our Victorian Parlour in Newmilns, the event combined history, food and atmosphere to create an unforgettable experience for our guests.

A reminder of the special themed events that have been part of the Lamlash House story over the years.

A small piece of history, carefully restored.

Back in 2019, following Listed Building Consent, we commissioned a commemorative plaque to honour the legacy of Robert Carmichael Mitchell, the first bank manager at the property and the man who built what was originally known as Bank House.

The plaque was officially unveiled at our business launch by Deputy Lieutenant of Ayrshire and Arran, Bill Stafford, marking a proud moment in the building’s story.

Seven years on, the plaque has been given some well-deserved TLC as it was taken down to allow stonework and pointing work out to be carried out and is now back in place on Lamlash House — continuing to celebrate the unique heritage that makes this building special and worthy of its Listed status.

Look out for it the next time you're passing or visiting.

Bringing character back to the details.

We’ve just completed careful restoration and painting work once again on the original bank entrance door at Lamlash House.

Preserving features like this is all about respecting the building’s history while giving it a fresh, refined finish to welcome guests.

Afternoon Tea at Lamlash House isn’t rushed.

It’s about taking your time, enjoying the surroundings, and properly switching off for a while.

Saturday 9th May we’re opening our doors for a public Afternoon Tea – and there are still a few spaces to fill.

This is the last public Afternoon Tea until mid-summer.

If you’re looking for something a little different next weekend, this is it.

Five years on from installing the ornamental lantern on Greenholm Bridge, it was time for us to give it a little care and attention.

Greenholm Bridge has always been a quiet landmark in Newmilns, so restoring the lantern felt important to us.

After careful painting and restoration, we’ve also introduced a subtle upgrade — a solar-powered LED light, bringing it gently back to life.

It’s believed that Newmilns’ gas street lighting was phased out nearly 60 years ago.

While this light may not shine quite as brightly as it once did in 1966, seeing it glow again this evening is a small but meaningful nod to the town’s heritage.

A blend of past and present, right here in Newmilns.

A perfect morning for weeding.

We spent some time in the Poetry Garden and the commemorative bench area on Brown’s Road, Newmilns giving it some much-needed TLC. From tidying up the beds to refreshing the heritage interpretation panels, bin and lamp posts, everything is now looking fresh for the season ahead.

A big thank you to everyone who stopped to say hello — it’s always lovely to have a chat with the community. East Ayrshire Council some bags of weeds and rubbish to be collected please at the bin. Thank you.
