April has been a highly productive and engaging month for the squadron, with a strong emphasis on development, opportunity, and preparation.
The month began with a structured debate night, providing cadets with the opportunity to develop confidence, public speaking, and critical thinking skills. Cadets engaged thoughtfully with a range of topics, demonstrating maturity in their arguments and the ability to respectfully challenge differing viewpoints.
We also delivered a recruitment evening, welcoming prospective cadets and offering them an insight into squadron life. The event showcased the wide range of opportunities available, from aviation and fieldcraft to leadership and community engagement, and was a valuable opportunity to inspire the next intake of cadets.
Practical training featured prominently, with the delivery of stoves training. This session equipped cadets with essential fieldcraft knowledge, ensuring they can safely and effectively operate equipment in a controlled environment—an important foundation for future activities.
A particular highlight of the month was a visit from the Great North Air Ambulance Service (GNAAS). Cadets gained valuable insight into the work of the organisation, developing their understanding of emergency response and the vital role such services play within the community.
Significant time was also dedicated to drill practice in preparation for the rapidly approaching Annual Formal Inspection. Cadets have demonstrated strong commitment and discipline, working to refine their standards and ensure the squadron is represented to the highest level.
Finally, congratulations are extended to those cadets who successfully completed Bronze Cyber this month. Their achievement reflects both individual dedication and the squadron’s continued focus on developing modern, transferable skills.
Overall, April has highlighted the squadron’s continued commitment to building confident, capable, and well-rounded cadets while maintaining high standards across all areas of training.
