Food Newcastle is a non-profit network of organisations and individuals demanding a healthier and more sustainable food culture in Newcastle upon Tyne. By joining forces with our partner organisations, we are creating a movement that demands . We hope that by connecting and informing likeminded organisations and individuals, we can inspire others to take action to create a hea

As members of the Sustainable Food Places Network, we established a local Newcastle network, produced the Newcastle Food Charter and the Good Food Plan, and achieved the Sustainable Food Places Bronze Award. The Network is made up of a broad and open stakeholder group which includes anyone with a remit or interest in food, whether in promoting healthy eating, cooking skills, food production, retail, consumption or waste. Stakeholders come together at events and activities to discuss the progress and future of the network and members are invited to contribute to the relevant sub-groups.

Fairtrade in Newcastle: why it matters and how to get involved.

The Newcastle Fairtrade Partnership is looking to hear from organisations and individuals across the city who sell, promote, or support Fairtrade. That includes shops, businesses, schools, places of worship, campaigning groups, and individual supporters.

By joining, you can help strengthen the city’s Fairtrade network, be part of future activities and communications, and contribute to the ongoing work of keeping Newcastle’s Fairtrade City status meaningful and active. Information shared with the Partnership may also be used to help build a directory and map of organisations supporting Fairtrade in Newcastle.

If your organisation supports Fairtrade, or if you want to get more involved as an individual, now is a good time to join the effort. You can also join our directory. To find out more, or to join the Newcastle Fairtrade partnership contact us.

Good Food Together: Towards Newcastle’s 2030 Good Food Vision

In February, we gathered partners, community organisations, and public sector colleagues at Newcastle City Library to reflect on what we’ve achieved in 2025 — and to imagine what Newcastle’s food system could look like by 2030.

From cooking classes and food security support to carbon literacy and sustainability initiatives, the conversation showed that strong foundations already exist across the city.

Participants shared a bold ambition:
A Newcastle where the right to food is recognised, sustainability is embedded across the food economy, and collaboration drives real change.

The work now moves to drafting a coherent 2030 Good Food Vision — and we’re still welcoming contributions.

Together, we’re building a more equitable, sustainable and delicious food city. Read more about it on our blog on our website (link in bio).

As we get ready to welcome 2026, we’re taking a moment to celebrate a year shaped by community, collaboration, and the shared belief that Newcastle can be a city where good food is accessible to all.

In 2025, we strengthened our Good Food Movement, deepened partnerships across the city, supported local growing and community food projects, and continued work across our priority areas—from tackling food insecurity to championing healthy, sustainable choices. None of this would have been possible without the passion and commitment of our partners, volunteers, and residents.

Thank you for every conversation, workshop, pledge, meal shared, idea tested, and step taken toward a fairer, healthier, and more sustainable food system. You are the movement.

Here’s to a 2026 filled with good food, bold action, and even stronger community connections.

Happy New Year from all of us at Food Newcastle!

Merry Christmas from Food Newcastle!

As the city sparkles with festive lights, we’re celebrating the incredible community that makes Newcastle’s good food movement so special. From growers and makers to volunteers, partners, and neighbours, thank you for helping us build a city where good food is for everyone.

This Christmas, we’re raising a toast (with something warm and local) to a future where Newcastle’s food system is healthier, fairer, and more sustainable. Whether you’re sharing a holiday meal, supporting local producers, reducing waste, or lending a hand in your community—you’re part of this mission.

Wishing you joy, rest, and plenty of delicious moments.

🎨 Calling All Young Artists! 🌍✏️

We’re inviting children aged 5 to 11 to take part by creating a drawing that shows what Fairtrade means to you. It could be a picture of a farmer, your favourite dessert using Fairtrade chocolate or Fairtrade fruits, or a fairer world where everyone has access to food.

Let your imagination run wild and help spread the word about fairness, kindness, and looking after our planet.

Sophie from Newcastle pledge to promote better food waste policies by educating and working collaboratively with colleagues, communities, and partners. This is our shared responsibility and I aim to reduce waste, support sustainability, and contribute to a healthier future for all. And in the words of Sir David Attenborough: “We are at a unique stage in our history. Never before have we had such an awareness of what we are doing to the planet, and never before have we had the power to do something about that. The future of humanity and indeed, all life on earth, now depends on us.”

Add your pledge too, head over to our new website and share with us your ideas on how to make the Toon more equitable, sustainable and delicious.

Food Newcastle is proud to support the North East Anti-Racism Coalition’s regional call for evidence. In partnership with Newcastle University, the Coalition is inviting individuals and organisations to share their experiences of racism and religious hate through a short survey. Your voice can help shape action rooted in lived experience. The deadline to respond is Friday 18th July.
