https://linktr.ee/71engineer We are the Royal Engineer’s Army Reserve Regiment based across Scotland, Northern Ireland and the North East of England. Our Regimental Headquarters (RHQ) is in Leuchars, Fife and our 4 Squadrons are in Bangor, Paisley, Cumbernauld and Newcastle with Troop detachments in Leuchars, Kinloss, Orkney and Sunderland

. We are paired with 39 Engineer Regiment, a Regular Royal Engineer Regiment based in Kinloss, Moray. This pairing offers fantastic training opportunities both at home and overseas, as well as an added dimension to whatever training they help us deliver. We have just over 400 Army Reserve soldiers currently serving in the Regiment, each Squadron having around 110 personnel. We have a Permanent Staff Team of around 50, made up of Regular Army, Full Time Reserve Service and Civilians, they are available at all our locations most week days as well as enabling, training and mentoring our Reserve contingent: their aim is to make your Army Reserve experience as diverse, challenging and rewarding as possible. The Royal Engineers, one of the oldest corps in the British Army, commonly known as the Sappers are the construction arm for the Armed Forces. The Engineers provide support to the rest of the Armed Forces, ensuring their ability to live, move, and fight. This support includes building the accommodation, roads, bridges and airfields needed to successfully prosecute combat operations. As a Force Support Unit, 71 Engineer Regiment has a defined operational role in support of the Regular Army. Each Squadron must be able to Force Generate a troop’s worth of Force Support capability in support of training and operations as follows:

102 Field Squadron – Construction Plant & Combat Infrastructure.

103 Field Squadron – Construction Plant & Combat Infrastructure.

124 Field Support Squadron – Engineer Logistics Node & Combat Infrastructure.

591 Field Squadron – Combat Infrastructure Troop. In order to provide the flexibility required to meet our operational requirements each Squadron holds a mix of trades so opportunities for each of the trades below exist across most of the Regiment’s locations. We are looking for fit enthusiastic men and women between the ages of 18 and 43 from across Scotland and Northern Ireland and North East England to join our team. We are also seeking former Regular and Reserve soldiers and skilled construction professionals, however, no experience is necessary, as you will be trained in basic soldiering skills and a variety of technical trades. All applicants must be able to meet the eligibility criteria.

Members of 71 Engr Regiment are currently in Italy, walking the grounds of Monte Cassino. The experience is best described as humbling, and it's clear that the battles fought here are a testament to the power of relentless courage, great leadership and planning around using the terrain as a force multiplier! 💪🇬🇧🇮🇹

Today, soldiers from 103 Field Squadron, 71 Engineer Regiment supported the Apprenticeship Military Challenge Day at Anzio House on the Quayside.

The event builds on the success of the Northeast Apprenticeship Ambassador Network event held here in October and forms part of activity supporting National Apprenticeship Week. It directly contributes to our ENGAGE to RECRUIT focus, giving apprentices a hands on insight into the transferable skills developed through service in the Army Reserve.

Working alongside 5 Fusiliers and The Queen's Own Yeomanry, our soldiers delivered a round robin of military themed challenges centred on leadership, teamwork and problem solving, with a competitive edge to build team ethos. Apprentices from across the North East took part, alongside staff visitors and students from Newcastle College, with up to 60 civilians attending.

The day showcased how apprentices can serve as Army Reservist while continuing their civilian careers and qualifications. The Army Reserve and the Regular Army both offer apprenticeship opportunities, giving young people the chance to gain recognised qualifications, develop confidence and leadership skills, and earn while they learn.

Over the weekend, 103 Field Squadron (Newcastle) led a joint training weekend with the 5 Fusiliers at Catterick. Overall, it was a solid and productive weekend that brought both units together, sharpened skills, and reinforced the value of training as a team.

Soldiers got hands-on with a range of serials including the Infantry Assault Bridge (IAB), Combat Water Supply Systems (CWSS), Scatter Munitions (ScatMin) and a confirmation exercise that pulled together both individual and team skills. The focus was on learning by doing, with plenty of time spent getting stuck in and understanding how each capability fits into the wider picture.

With the Fusiliers building on their Assault Pioneer knowledge, it was a great opportunity for others to pick up key engineering skills alongside solid fieldcraft and soldiering. The mix of trades and experience made for good learning, strong teamwork, and plenty of knowledge sharing across the weekend.

Overall, the weekend showed exactly what the Army Reserve is about. Balancing civilian life with high quality military training, soldiers from different units came together to learn new skills, challenge themselves and deliver real capability. Joint training like this offers the chance to develop professionally, build confidence and be part of a strong team, proving that the Army Reserve continues to play a vital role.

If you're 18-43 and looking for a meaningful challenge, unparalleled teamwork and a way to serve your country alongside your current employment, we want to hear from you.
