Conservation of Fine Art Society - Northumbria University A group dedicated to connecting Northumbria students interested in fine art conservation

The Conservation of Fine Art Society (COFAS) is the collective society for the Conservation of Fine Art MA program (Paper, Paintings and Preventive). However even though this society based from the program, we are open to all students interested in art conservation! Conservators aim to restore, conserve and monitor the conditions of works of art, often working within the realms of museums, archives and private practice so many of our outings or visits will be focused around these areas.

📢 Society AGM & Elections – Important Dates

Our Annual General Meeting process is coming up, and all committee positions will be open for nomination. These roles must be filled for the society to continue into the next academic year, so please consider getting involved.

Key Dates

Nominations Open: 1 April, 9:00
Nominations Close: 15 April, 23:59

Voting Opens: 20 April, 9:00
Voting Closes: 3 May, 23:59

All nominations and voting will take place through the myNSU website. To access the elections, go to mynsu.co.uk → What’s On → Societies → Elections.

This online event is an informal space to meet others at a similar career stage, share experiences, and make connections across disciplines. Students, early-career professionals, and those navigating the next step are all encouraged to join.

Join us at Durham Cathedral TOMORROW to learn about the current conservation work being done to the 150 yr. Old Gilbert Scott Screen! We will be hearing from the senior stone conservator at Hirst Conservation Ltd. about the current project and her experience working on-site at this stunning UNESCO World Heritage Site!

🚞Meeting at the Newcastle train station at 12:15pm to depart to Durham as a group

The local painting conservator will give us a tour around, which might give you an insight into the summer placements and future work places.
