Workers at the Stadler Gosforth Metro Depot are getting ready to say a final farewell to their old trains.

The maintenance teams have spent decades repairing, improving and tending to the original Metro fleet, helping the trains to remain workhorses of the tracks ever since they came into service in 1980.

But now it is almost time for them to say goodbye to an icon of North East England’s public transport network after 46 years.

Thanks to everyone who came along to our lost property sale at Tynemouth Market yesterday.

We raised a fantastic £600 for North East Dementia Care.

All unsold items have been donated to charity, except one which we’re keen to reunite with its owners.

If you know the Teasdale family, send us a message and we can get their family decoration back to them!

The footbridge at Whitley Bay Metro station has been carefully restored to its former glory and it went back into use for customers earlier today, Monday 8 June.

The work is the final part of a multi-million-pound renewal scheme at the Grade II Listed station, which has already seen its canopy completely restored.
