Domestic Abuse Peer Educators

Domestic Abuse Peer Educators We are DV Peer Educators based at the West end Women and Girls Centre. We deliver preventative domestic abuse workshops to young women between 13-19 years.

Our names are Laura and Sophie and we are currently running workshops in a variety of schools, colleges and youth groups in the north east. Our aim is to educate young women about domestic violence and healthy relationships and eventually develop a network of domestic violence champions across all high schools, colleges and youth settings. A domestic violence champion is a young women based in the

ir own school, college or youth centre who will be a point of contact for any young women with issues around relationships or domestic violence. We will be delivering a teenage safe 4 life course starting the 13th January 2016. It will be ran by ourselves between 4:30 and 6:30 pm every Wednesday night for 10 weeks. The safe 4 life course will give you a clear understanding of relationships both good and bad, how to stay safe and make you feel stronger and better about yourself. any young woman who is between the age of 13 and 19 is welcome to attend if they feel it is necessary for them. There is also an adult safe 4 life course for anybody over 19 who is being or has been effected by domestic violence.

Excelsior Academyโ€™s girls from across year 9 and 11 have been trained this half term to become Domestic Violence Champions. They were encouraged by Hadrian Inclusion Manager Danielle Cunningham to take part in this ground breaking course which teaches girls how to identify the perpetrators of Domestic Violence. The course itself, ran by West End Women and Girls, is an intensive 5 week course aimed at girls from all backgrounds giving them the skills to be able to identify the signs of Domestic abuse, its victims, its perpetrators, and how to prevent in the future. The girls are all now trained Domestic Violence Champions and will be easily identifiable to all staff and students by their badges and information posters will be clearly displayed around school. The Champions will be organising and holding drop in sessions in school, supported by Miss Cunningham and the Welfare Team.
