Silverdale Country Park

Silverdale Country Park This picturesque 83-hectare park was created on the former Silverdale Colliery and provides an enticing venue for the public to enjoy and where nature can

Silverdale Country Park was created on the site of the former Silverdale Colliery which closed in 1998 after leading Europe in Coal production at one time. Silverdale Country Park opened in 2011 after several years of remediation work to convert the site from the former pit to the Wildlife Haven the site has now become. Silverdale Country Park is designed to be a place for wildlife conservation an

d for the local community to enjoy quiet recreation and this can be done via a network of 8 miles of footpaths around the 200 acre park, most of which provide access for all. Working with schools and volunteers is a big part of Silverdale Country Park and several awards have been received for this community engagement. Silverdale Country Park has a variety of Wildlife habitats including Lakes, Meadows and Woodland. However, it is the bare ground habitats (which result from the colliery past), which attract the rare wildlife that led in 2015 to he site being designated as a Site of Biological Importance for its rare Birds, butterflies and invertebrates to name a few.

🌿 Important Notice 🌿

As we head into Summer, we’d like to remind visitors that swimming is NOT permitted at any of our sites and to take precautions to prevent fires, helping us protect both people and the natural environment.

During dry conditions, our green spaces and wildlife are more vulnerable, so we kindly ask everyone to take extra care when visiting:
❌ Please don’t enter the water
❌ Do not use BBQs
❌ Do not light bonfires or campfires
🔥 Report any signs of fire by calling 999

These actions help safeguard local habitats, protect wildlife, and keep our spaces safe for everyone to enjoy. The wellbeing of our visitors and the natural environment is always our priority, so please plan ahead and take care during hot weather.

For weather updates, visit the Met Office website.

We are very sorry to hear about the recent reports of anti-social behaviour at the park and understand the concern this has caused for residents and visitors who use and enjoy the space regularly.

Please be assured that we have now reported the incident to Staffordshire Police. However, further reports from members of the public are extremely important, as they help the police build a clearer picture of the issues being experienced and can lead to increased PCSO patrols in the area.

If you witness any incidents, please report them using the Staffordshire Police online 101 form below:

A gentle reminder for all visitors to Silverdale Country Park 🌿

To help keep everyone safe and protect the park’s habitats, please make sure you follow the signage showing where horse riding is permitted.

Some areas of the park are not suitable for horses, and sticking to the designated routes helps:

Keep riders and walkers safe
Protect wildlife and sensitive habitats
Prevent damage to paths and green spaces

If you’re unsure, just check the signs around the park - they’re there to guide you.

Thank you for helping us look after Silverdale Country Park for everyone to enjoy 💚

As the weather warms up, just a reminder that fires and BBQs aren’t allowed on the reserves 🔥

Even small flames can spread quickly in dry grass and leaf litter, putting wildlife and habitats at risk.

If you’re heading out, please take all your litter home with you too 🚯 It helps keep these spaces safe and enjoyable for everyone.

Thanks for helping look after the reserves 🌿

This Earth Day, we’re focusing on what matters most: protecting the nature that lives and breathes across our reserves 🌿

From woodlands and wetlands to grasslands full of wildlife, these places depend on careful stewardship - and on the people who visit, volunteer, and support them.

We all have a role in caring for our green spaces. Every visit, every bit of care, every decision to protect green space makes a difference.

Happy Earth Day!🌍

Wonderful warm sunny day on Silverdale Country Park. Great to see so many people out enjoying the park. Lovely also to see the Wildlife emerging to enjoy the sunshine too.
Our first wildflower of the season is often Coltsfoot. It's yellow flower resembles a dandelion but if you look close it has no real leaves and a scaly stem instead. Speedwell and it's blue flowers are also showing and it's lovely to see several species of butterflies on the wing too. One of our favourites the bright yellow coloured Brimstone butterfly is out too and one to look for particularly near woodland edges.
Enjoy your visit
