๐ŸŒง๏ธ What a wet week! The rain certainly hasnโ€™t dampened spirits here at Silverdale. Brain power has been at maximum capacity, especially in Year 1 during their Phonics Screening Check and in Year 4 as they completed their Times Tables Check โ€“ and they absolutely smashed it! ๐ŸŒŸ๐Ÿ“š It never ceases to amaze me how confidently our children rise to these challenges.

Hereโ€™s a quick round-up of some of the highlights from around the school:

๐Ÿ’๐ŸŒฟ Nursery have been busy learning about the jungle. They have enjoyed lots of snipping and threading activities, developing their fine motor skills. Just look at the concentration on their faces! โœ‚๏ธ๐Ÿงต

๐Ÿš‚๐Ÿ“– Reception have been creating trains and story maps. Using a variety of big and small 2D shapes, they designed and built their own creations โ€“ incredible work! ๐Ÿ”บ๐ŸŸฆโญ

๐Ÿ’ปโŒจ๏ธ Year 1 have been busy on their laptops, practising a range of computing skills. They have been learning how to type their names, use capital letters, and change font size and colour. It was tricky, but they showed great perseverance. ๐Ÿ‘

๐Ÿ‘พโœ๏ธ Year 2 have been creating their own monsters and publishing their writing all about them. Their creativity has been fantastic to see! ๐Ÿ“šโœจ

โšฝ๐Ÿƒ Years 3 and 4 enjoyed another brilliant session with Time for Sport on Thursday morning, which certainly helped brighten an otherwise miserable day. ๐Ÿ˜Š

๐ŸŒณ๐Ÿƒ I always enjoy seeing our weekly Forest School sessions, and this week was no exception. The children created wood carvings (whittling) using potato peelers and knives to carve characters that matched their Forest School names. Their focus, creativity and care were impressive. ๐Ÿชต๐Ÿ”ช๐ŸŽจ

๐Ÿ“š๐Ÿบ Year 6 have been working hard on their next English unit, which focuses on Grimm tales by The Brothers Grimm. The children are thoroughly enjoying just how grim and gruesome some of the stories are! ๐Ÿ‘ป๐Ÿ–‹๏ธ

โ˜€๏ธ๐Ÿคž Fingers crossed for some sunshine this weekend! Have a wonderful break and enjoy some well-deserved family time.

๐ŸŒง๏ธ What a wet week back at school! Despite the rainy weather, it has been a busy and productive start to our final term of the year, with lots of wonderful learning taking place across the school.

๐Ÿฆ๐Ÿ˜ Nursery have started their exciting new topic all about wild animals. The children have been busy creating colourful collages, making crocodile pegs ๐ŸŠ, and practising their name writing โœ๏ธ. We have seen some fantastic effort and progress โ€“ brilliant work, Nursery! โญ

๐Ÿ“š๐Ÿป Reception have been thoroughly enjoying the story of Goldilocks and the Three Bears. The children have been making videos ๐ŸŽฅ, investigating a mystery crime scene ๐Ÿ”, and even writing their own books ๐Ÿ“–. Their creativity and enthusiasm have been amazing to see.

๐ŸŒณ๐Ÿ‘‘ Year 1 have also been immersed in a story-based learning adventure with Where the Wild Things Are. The children received personalised reply letters from Max and the Wild Things โœ‰๏ธ and were then asked to help after receiving a frantic email from Maxโ€™s mum ๐Ÿ“ง, who was worried that he had gone missing. The children searched around the school, following clues ๐Ÿ•ต๏ธ and using their detective skills to help solve the mystery.

โฐโž• Year 2 mathematicians have been learning to tell the time, focusing on quarter past, half past, and quarter to. Make sure you ask them at home to show off their new skills! ๐Ÿ•’โญ

๐Ÿƒโ€โ™€๏ธ๐Ÿ”ข Years 3 and 4 had a fantastic time taking part in a lesson called Maths on the Move, which combined PE and Maths. It was wonderful to see the children learning actively while developing both their mathematical understanding and teamwork skills. ๐Ÿค

๐Ÿ—ฃ๏ธโ™ป๏ธ Year 5 have impressed us with some excellent paired and group work while debating the issue of litter in the local community. They shared thoughtful ideas and demonstrated great speaking and listening skills. ๐Ÿ‘

โœ๏ธ๐Ÿ“– Year 6 have been busy completing their final suspense stories. It has been lovely to see the pride on their faces as they finished their work, and we cannot wait to read the finished pieces. โญ Due to the wet weather, cricket practice ๐Ÿ moved indoors, and the children have been enjoying energetic games of bench ball instead. ๐Ÿƒโ€โ™‚๏ธ๐Ÿƒโ€โ™€๏ธ

๐ŸŒŸ Well done to everyone for such a positive and successful week back! Have a wonderful weekend, and we look forward to another exciting week of learning ahead. ๐Ÿ˜Š

I canโ€™t believe it is half term already as we head into our final term of the school year โ€” wow, it feels like it has flown by! โฐโœจ It is lovely to reflect on how much our children have grown, both inside and out ๐ŸŒฑ๐Ÿ’›

A great example of this can be seen in Nursery, where the children are now confidently learning sounds, blending them together, and taking part in daily mathematical challenges ๐Ÿ”คโž•๐Ÿงฉ

In Reception, the children have been learning about London ๐Ÿ‡ฌ๐Ÿ‡ง, making their own models of the city ๐Ÿ™๏ธ and creating their own information books ๐Ÿ“š โ€” their writing is amazing! โœ๏ธโญ

In Year 1, I was lucky enough to hear the lovely music the children have been creating while improvising on the glockenspiels ๐ŸŽถ๐ŸŽต โ€” what sweet tunes they produced! ๐Ÿ˜Š

In Year 2, the children have completed their Geography learning about rivers, seas, and oceans ๐ŸŒŠ๐Ÿ—บ๏ธ with beautiful two-page spreads. In Maths, they have been giving directions to their partners to guide them through classroom mazes ๐Ÿงญ as well as designing mazes of their own.

Years 3 and 4 have also been finishing their Geography learning by completing creative two-page spreads ๐ŸŒ๐Ÿ“–. This is such a lovely way to assess learning through a knowledgeable and creative display of their understanding ๐ŸŽจโœจ

Year 5 spent a morning at โ€˜Little Fishโ€™ ๐ŸŸ. We wanted to give back to our community โค๏ธ, so the children helped to play with the younger children, keep them safe, make and serve toast ๐Ÿž, and tidy up afterwards.

In Year 6 โ€” one of my favourite units โ€” the children have started a suspense unit based on The Nightmare Man ๐Ÿ‘€๐Ÿ“–. They have been reading and verbally retelling the story, as well as creating emoji charts ๐Ÿ˜€๐Ÿ˜จ๐Ÿ˜ข to show how the main character feels throughout and finding evidence to explain those emotions ๐Ÿ”๐Ÿ’ญ

We hope you all have a wonderful half term break filled with fun, rest, and special family moments โ˜€๏ธ๐Ÿ˜Š Please stay safe, look after one another, and we look forward to welcoming everyone back happy and refreshed for our final term together! ๐Ÿ’›๐Ÿ“š

๐ŸŒŸYear 6 ๐ŸŒŸ

Year 6 deserve their very own post this week!

This week, our Year 6 children completed their SATs tests. These statutory assessments measure reading, writing and maths skills โ€” but they do not measure the many other qualities each and every child showed throughout the week: positivity, perseverance, resilience and the determination to always try their very best.

Every single child gave it their all and supported one another along the way. There were so many lovely moments and interactions that showed deep friendships, kindness, respect and genuine care for each other.

SATs are not just about one week of tests. They are the result of years of learning, practising and embedding skills and knowledge, and our whole school community has been behind this wonderful group of Year 6 children every step of the way.

A very special mention must go to Miss Khan and Mrs Golledge, who have nurtured these skills and prepared the children incredibly well. Their support, encouragement and belief in every single child this year โ€” and especially throughout this week โ€” has been amazing to see ๐Ÿ˜

I was so impressed by the confidence with which the children tackled the questions and the strategies they used to approach them.

Well done, Year 6 โ€” you are all superstars and you absolutely smashed it! โญ

What a busy week at Silverdale Primary this week โ€“ wow!

Nursery have been learning the story of The Gingerbread Man, creating their own life-sized gingerbread man and designing their own too. It was a great opportunity to practise those cutting skills.

Reception have loved the story of The Naughty Bus โ€“ creating their own stories (yes, writing their own!) and making maps for a bus journey. Such proud teacher moments!

Year 1 and 2 enjoyed an amazing trip to Peak Wildlife. The rain certainly didnโ€™t dampen their fun! The picture of them watching the polar bears whilst eating their lunch is incredible. Who else can say theyโ€™ve had lunch with a polar bear?

Year 3 and 4 have been busy debating hot topics such as: Should Minecraft be banned? and Should homework be banned? They became incredibly passionate about their arguments and I canโ€™t wait to see their finished writing.

Year 5 have created beautiful origami birds โ€“ such a tricky technique, but the results look stunning. First, they used watercolours and different brushstrokes to create a feather effect on their origami paper.

And as for Year 6โ€ฆ

As we reach the halfway mark of the term, classes are in full swing across the school ๐Ÿ“šโœจ. Year 6 are gearing up for their SATs next week and have been working incredibly hard all year to approach them with confidence ๐Ÿ’ช๐Ÿ“.

Nursery have enjoyed many lovely moments this week, especially in role-play, pretending to be the characters from Little Red Riding Hood ๐Ÿบ๐ŸŽ. We particularly loved seeing the โ€œgranniesโ€ relaxing in their homemade beds ๐Ÿ›๏ธ๐Ÿ˜Š!

In Reception, the children have been learning about the local area by creating maps ๐Ÿ—บ๏ธ and writing about different places. We are so proud of their writing, especially their use of full stops and capital letters โœ๏ธ๐Ÿ‘.

Year 1 shared the sweet Challah bread and grape juice using the cups and plates we had made last week. The bread was so sweet and soft.๐Ÿ‘

In Year 2 art ๐ŸŽจ, the children explored colour mixing by creating different tints of blue using dark blue and white watercolours ๐Ÿ’™๐Ÿ–Œ๏ธ.

Year 3 have been making great progress in music lessons ๐ŸŽถ. They are becoming much more confident at using the glockenspiel and finding notes quickly ๐ŸŽต๐Ÿ‘.

Year 4 had a much-improved tennis lesson today ๐ŸŽพ, showing far greater accuracy and control when returning the ball to their partners. In science ๐Ÿ”ฌ, they also carried out an investigation into air resistance. The children made parachutes with different surface areas ๐Ÿช‚ and timed how long they took to fall to the ground, discovering that larger surface areas create greater air resistance.

Amongst all the revision Year 6 have been completing this week ๐Ÿ“–, they have also enjoyed playing rounders outside โšพ๐ŸŒณ. A key focus has been learning to play the game while following all of the rules ๐Ÿ‘.

Hope all our families are looking forward to a long weekend โ˜€๏ธ. It has been another lovely week in school โ€“ busy, productive, and sprinkled with wow moments โœจ.

Nursery have centred their learning around the story of Little Red Riding Hood ๐Ÿ“–. They have been creating maps ๐Ÿ—บ๏ธ, writing notes โœ๏ธ, enjoying lots of imaginative role play ๐ŸŽญ, and even making their own axes!

Reception have been learning about Silverdale. They wrote letters home ๐Ÿ’Œ, put them in envelopes, and posted them in the village ๐Ÿ“ฎ โ€“ we canโ€™t wait for them to receive their replies.

It was wonderful to see Year 1 take their art lesson outside in the sunshine ๐ŸŽจ๐ŸŒฟ โ€“ very inspiring, and a great example of teachers adapting and taking opportunities as they arise to give children enriching experiences.

Year 2 have been developing their cooperation skills through a creative challenge: using just two sheets of paper to get from one side of the room to the other. โ€œThe floor is lava!โ€ ๐ŸŒ‹ led to fantastic communication and teamwork ๐Ÿค.

We were delighted to welcome Staffordshire Cricket ๐Ÿ, who worked with our children this week. Year 3 and Year 4 thrived while learning new skills and enjoying a cricket taster session.

Year 5 have been busy as masterchefs ๐Ÿ‘จโ€๐Ÿณ๐Ÿ‘ฉโ€๐Ÿณ, creating a tomato-based pasta sauce ๐Ÿ. They learned how to chop onions safely using the bridge and claw method ๐Ÿ”ช โ€“ great job Year 5! The final dish was delicious, especially with a sprinkle of cheese on top ๐Ÿง€!

Year 6 have started sessions with our MHN, taking part in activities linked to the Five Ways to Wellbeing ๐ŸŒฑ, including connection and physical activity, to support their mental wellbeing ๐Ÿ’›.

Today, Newcastle MP Adam Jogee for Newcastle-under-Lyme visited Silverdale Primary! He visited classes and heard about all of the different ways we are using space within our school to enhance our school environment and improve experiences for our pupils. He loved Pippin in the Pet Patch ๐Ÿข , our sensory room, our new KS1 quad area and the library which, of course, was developed by our very own pupil council. He also listened to a some of our Y3/4 pupils read their texts about the environment ๐ŸŒณ ๐Ÿ˜„
