๐ŸŒŸ A Wonderful Second Week of the New School Year! ๐ŸŒŸ

What a fantastic second week we have had at school! ๐Ÿซโœจ

It has been wonderful to see all of our children settling so well, becoming increasingly confident, independent and enthusiastic learners. ๐Ÿ“š๐Ÿ’ช๐Ÿ˜Š

A huge thank you to all of our parents and carers who attended our parent meetings this week. โค๏ธ These meetings are such an important opportunity to meet your childโ€™s teachers, find out more about the year ahead, and understand the routines, information and expectations that will help your child have a successful year. ๐Ÿค

๐ŸŒŸ A Very Special Visit ๐ŸŒŸ

Yesterday, we were delighted to welcome a visiting Executive Headteacher from the Northern Schools to our school.

He was incredibly impressed by the high standard of teaching and the dedication and commitment of our wonderful staff. ๐Ÿ‘๐ŸŽ

He was particularly impressed by our amazing children, who he saw being independent, confident and fully engaged in purposeful learning. ๐ŸŒŸ๐Ÿ“–

Visitors to our school are always deeply impressed by the wonderful atmosphere, high expectations and learning taking place every day. We are incredibly proud of our whole school community! โค๏ธ๐Ÿซ

๐Ÿงธ Nursery

All of our Nursery children are now in school and are thriving! ๐ŸŒˆ๐Ÿ˜Š

It has been lovely to see them so happy, content and busy as they settle into their new environment. They are making new friends, exploring their surroundings and getting to know all the lovely adults who will be supporting them throughout their Nursery journey. ๐Ÿ‘ซ๐ŸŽจ๐Ÿงธ

What a fantastic start! ๐ŸŒŸ

๐ŸŽจ Reception

Our Reception children have been very busy this week, with a big focus on becoming independent learners. ๐Ÿ’ช๐ŸŒŸ

They have been making playdough, exploring paint and creating their own stories using their mini-me figures. ๐Ÿ–Œ๏ธ๐Ÿง‘โ€๐ŸŽจ๐Ÿ“š

It has been wonderful to see their imaginations developing as they learn to make choices, share ideas and take increasing responsibility for their learning. ๐Ÿ’ญโœจ

๐Ÿ“ข Reception Phonics Workshop Reminder!

Next week we have our Phonics Workshop for Reception parents. ๐Ÿ“–๐Ÿ”ค Please do come along if you can! It is so important that you understand how we teach phonics in school so that you can confidently support your child with their reading and phonics learning at home. ๐Ÿ โค๏ธ

๐ŸŒณ Year 1

Year 1 had an amazing Forest School day this week! ๐ŸŒฒ๐Ÿ‚๐Ÿชต

There were so many different activities to enjoy and explore. It was fantastic to see the children outside, exploring nature, taking appropriate risks, getting muddy and, most importantly, having lots of fun while learning! ๐Ÿ˜„๐ŸŒฟ

We imagine quite a few of them needed a very good bath when they got home! ๐Ÿ›๐Ÿ˜‚

We love seeing our children learning outdoors and developing their confidence, resilience and independence through these experiences. ๐Ÿ’ช๐ŸŒณ

๐ŸŽจ Year 2

Year 2 have also been enjoying learning outdoors. ๐ŸŒฟ

As part of their Art lessons, they have been exploring their environment and creating rubbings to discover and record patterns around them. ๐Ÿ–๏ธ๐Ÿƒ๐Ÿ”Ž

It was lovely to see them looking carefully at the world around them and using what they found to inspire their artwork. ๐ŸŽจโœจ

๐Ÿ”ท Years 3 & 4

Years 3 and 4 have been busy learning all about 3D shapes! ๐Ÿ“๐Ÿ”บ๐Ÿ”ต

They have been developing their understanding of the different properties of 3D shapes and have also been getting creative by making their own. โœ‚๏ธ๐Ÿ“ฆ

It has been wonderful to see them putting their mathematical knowledge into practice while working creatively at the same time. ๐Ÿง โœจ

๐Ÿ“š Year 5

Year 5 have been developing their storytelling skills by creating story maps based on the funny story The Papaya That Spoke. ๐Ÿฅญ๐Ÿ“–๐Ÿ—บ๏ธ

They have also been deepening their understanding of place value, working collaboratively and supporting one another as they develop their mathematical thinking. ๐Ÿ”ข๐Ÿค

๐Ÿ•๏ธ Year 6

Year 6 have had a particularly busy week โ€” and so have their parents! ๐Ÿ˜„

We held two parent meetings this week, where families were given lots of information about the childrenโ€™s very exciting residential trip, which is coming up soon. ๐ŸšŒ๐Ÿ•๏ธ๐ŸŒฒ

There is certainly lots for everyone to look forward to! ๐ŸŽ‰

In their learning, Year 6 have also been researching the work of artist Ifeoma Anyaeji, finding out more about her artistic style and developing their understanding through research and discussion. ๐ŸŽจ๐Ÿ”

๐ŸŒŸ What a Week! ๐ŸŒŸ

It has been another incredibly busy and successful week across the school. We are so proud of how well our children have settled into the new school year and of the enthusiasm, independence and positive attitudes they are showing every day. โค๏ธ๐Ÿ‘

Well done, everyone! ๐ŸŒŸ

We are looking forward to another fantastic week ahead! ๐Ÿซ๐Ÿ“š๐Ÿ˜Š

๐ŸŒŸ And weโ€™re off! September 2026 โ€” welcome back to school! ๐ŸŒŸ

What a lovely couple of days it has been at Silverdale. The children have been calm, settled and happy, enjoying time in their class families with their friends. It has been wonderful to see them getting stuck into their learning and embracing our school routines and expectations.

๐Ÿซ Reception have been singing songs, exploring their new environment and beginning to settle into school life.

๐Ÿข Year 1 have been meeting Pippin the tortoise and enjoying reading together in our school library.

๐Ÿ“š Year 2 have gone straight to it, learning together in Maths and English โ€” what a fantastic start!

๐Ÿงฎ Years 3 and 4 have been tackling arithmetic lessons like true mathematicians. The focus and concentration have been incredible!

๐Ÿค Year 5 have been learning their new routines and, already, are working together respectfully and getting stuck into their learning.

๐Ÿ’ป Year 6 have been learning about online safety โ€” such an important reminder at the start of a new school year.

It is evident from being around school, and from seeing the wonderful photos shared with parents, that our children are settled, content and safe. They have done brilliantly in learning new routines, meeting Silverdaleโ€™s high expectations and getting their school year off to such a positive start.

Well done, children! ๐Ÿ‘ You have been amazing โ€” and we think youโ€™ve all earned a very good nightโ€™s sleep tonight! ๐Ÿ˜ด๐Ÿ’™

Hereโ€™s to a fantastic year ahead! ๐ŸŒŸ

As we enter the penultimate week of the school year, it has certainly been a hot one! โ˜€๏ธ Despite the soaring temperatures, there have been so many amazing events in school that will create memories to last a lifetime. โญ

Firstly, our Year 6 children enjoyed their final school disco. ๐Ÿ•บ๐Ÿ’ƒ What a lovely event! Even in the heat, they made the most of the opportunity to spend time together, dance, and celebrate their final weeks at primary school. ๐ŸŽถโœจ

Our School Council and School Leadership Team, led by Mrs Hammond, celebrated all of the hard work they have done this year by hosting a special afternoon tea. โ˜•๐Ÿฐ They shared everything they have achieved over the past year and reflected on the positive difference they have made across the school. They are fantastic role models, and we are incredibly proud of them. ๐Ÿ‘๐ŸŒŸ

Nursery have been enjoying some wonderful moments of imaginative play. ๐ŸŽญโœจ It has been lovely to hear the children creating stories together as they pretend and explore their ideas through play. ๐Ÿ“š๐Ÿ’ญ

In Reception, the children created fantastic 3D models of the ocean ๐ŸŒŠ๐Ÿ  before writing all about them. Their creativity and enthusiasm have been amazing to see! ๐ŸŽจโœ๏ธ

Year 1 brought the story of Moses and the Exodus from Egypt to life by acting it out. ๐Ÿšถโ€โ™‚๏ธ๐ŸŒŠ Walking through the "Red Sea" was certainly very refreshing in this hot weather! โ˜€๏ธ๐Ÿ˜„

Year 2 have continued developing their understanding of telling the time. ๐Ÿ•’ Make sure you ask them at home to tell the time for youโ€”they're becoming real experts! โฐ๐Ÿ‘

In Years 3 and 4, the focus has been on light. ๐Ÿ’ก Many children have successfully completed their torches, including wiring in a working switch. ๐Ÿ”ฆ Well done to our budding electricians! โšก๐Ÿ‘

Year 5 have impressed us with their creative and informative two-page history spreads, showcasing the knowledge and skills they have developed this term. ๐Ÿ“œ๐Ÿ“– They look fantastic! ๐ŸŒŸ

As Year 6 prepare for their final week at primary school, we couldn't resist sharing some photographs from their disco, pizza delivery ๐Ÿ• and celebrations, all accompanied by plenty of pop music. ๐ŸŽต๐ŸŽ‰ They all look absolutely fabulous, and we hope they continue to enjoy every moment of these special last days together. โค๏ธโœจ

๐ŸŒž Silverdale Summer Term Update
As the final Summer term picks up pace, what an incredibly busy and exciting week it has been at Silverdale!

๐Ÿ Early Years โ€“ Conservationists & Football Stars in the Making
Our youngest learners have been showing real care for the wildlife in our school garden โ€” they even saved a bee this week. Conservationists in the making!
Reception also celebrated Englandโ€™s win with a lively penalty shootโ€‘out. Future England players everywhere. Go Silverdale!

๐Ÿค Year 1 โ€“ What Makes a Good Friend?
Year 1 have been doing some very important thinking, discussing the qualities of a good friend.
There was also a delicious smell drifting from their classroom todayโ€ฆ toasted fruit bread. Yum.

๐Ÿฅš Year 2 โ€“ Teamwork Time
Year 2 have been out practising team games โ€” including the classic โ€œdonโ€™t drop the egg!โ€ Lots of laughter and teamwork on display.

๐Ÿƒ Year 3 & 4 โ€“ Sprinting to Success
Years 3 and 4 have been racing ahead with some amazing athletics this week.
Year 4 also took part in a special ukulele concert yesterday โ€” an unforgettable experience for them.

๐ŸŒฒ Year 5 โ€“ Final Forest School Session
Year 5 enjoyed their final Forest School session of the year. Although sad to say goodbye, they made the most of it by exploring the woodland and helping to build a fire to toast crumpets.

โœ๏ธ Year 6 โ€“ Writers at Work
The hard work continues in Year 6. Children are buzzing with excitement as they prepare to write their own Grimmโ€‘inspired stories.
Before diving in, they have crafted some wonderfully atmospheric setting descriptions โ€” have a little read of a few below.

๐ŸŒง๏ธ What a wet week! The rain certainly hasnโ€™t dampened spirits here at Silverdale. Brain power has been at maximum capacity, especially in Year 1 during their Phonics Screening Check and in Year 4 as they completed their Times Tables Check โ€“ and they absolutely smashed it! ๐ŸŒŸ๐Ÿ“š It never ceases to amaze me how confidently our children rise to these challenges.

Hereโ€™s a quick round-up of some of the highlights from around the school:

๐Ÿ’๐ŸŒฟ Nursery have been busy learning about the jungle. They have enjoyed lots of snipping and threading activities, developing their fine motor skills. Just look at the concentration on their faces! โœ‚๏ธ๐Ÿงต

๐Ÿš‚๐Ÿ“– Reception have been creating trains and story maps. Using a variety of big and small 2D shapes, they designed and built their own creations โ€“ incredible work! ๐Ÿ”บ๐ŸŸฆโญ

๐Ÿ’ปโŒจ๏ธ Year 1 have been busy on their laptops, practising a range of computing skills. They have been learning how to type their names, use capital letters, and change font size and colour. It was tricky, but they showed great perseverance. ๐Ÿ‘

๐Ÿ‘พโœ๏ธ Year 2 have been creating their own monsters and publishing their writing all about them. Their creativity has been fantastic to see! ๐Ÿ“šโœจ

โšฝ๐Ÿƒ Years 3 and 4 enjoyed another brilliant session with Time for Sport on Thursday morning, which certainly helped brighten an otherwise miserable day. ๐Ÿ˜Š

๐ŸŒณ๐Ÿƒ I always enjoy seeing our weekly Forest School sessions, and this week was no exception. The children created wood carvings (whittling) using potato peelers and knives to carve characters that matched their Forest School names. Their focus, creativity and care were impressive. ๐Ÿชต๐Ÿ”ช๐ŸŽจ

๐Ÿ“š๐Ÿบ Year 6 have been working hard on their next English unit, which focuses on Grimm tales by The Brothers Grimm. The children are thoroughly enjoying just how grim and gruesome some of the stories are! ๐Ÿ‘ป๐Ÿ–‹๏ธ

โ˜€๏ธ๐Ÿคž Fingers crossed for some sunshine this weekend! Have a wonderful break and enjoy some well-deserved family time.

๐ŸŒง๏ธ What a wet week back at school! Despite the rainy weather, it has been a busy and productive start to our final term of the year, with lots of wonderful learning taking place across the school.

๐Ÿฆ๐Ÿ˜ Nursery have started their exciting new topic all about wild animals. The children have been busy creating colourful collages, making crocodile pegs ๐ŸŠ, and practising their name writing โœ๏ธ. We have seen some fantastic effort and progress โ€“ brilliant work, Nursery! โญ

๐Ÿ“š๐Ÿป Reception have been thoroughly enjoying the story of Goldilocks and the Three Bears. The children have been making videos ๐ŸŽฅ, investigating a mystery crime scene ๐Ÿ”, and even writing their own books ๐Ÿ“–. Their creativity and enthusiasm have been amazing to see.

๐ŸŒณ๐Ÿ‘‘ Year 1 have also been immersed in a story-based learning adventure with Where the Wild Things Are. The children received personalised reply letters from Max and the Wild Things โœ‰๏ธ and were then asked to help after receiving a frantic email from Maxโ€™s mum ๐Ÿ“ง, who was worried that he had gone missing. The children searched around the school, following clues ๐Ÿ•ต๏ธ and using their detective skills to help solve the mystery.

โฐโž• Year 2 mathematicians have been learning to tell the time, focusing on quarter past, half past, and quarter to. Make sure you ask them at home to show off their new skills! ๐Ÿ•’โญ

๐Ÿƒโ€โ™€๏ธ๐Ÿ”ข Years 3 and 4 had a fantastic time taking part in a lesson called Maths on the Move, which combined PE and Maths. It was wonderful to see the children learning actively while developing both their mathematical understanding and teamwork skills. ๐Ÿค

๐Ÿ—ฃ๏ธโ™ป๏ธ Year 5 have impressed us with some excellent paired and group work while debating the issue of litter in the local community. They shared thoughtful ideas and demonstrated great speaking and listening skills. ๐Ÿ‘

โœ๏ธ๐Ÿ“– Year 6 have been busy completing their final suspense stories. It has been lovely to see the pride on their faces as they finished their work, and we cannot wait to read the finished pieces. โญ Due to the wet weather, cricket practice ๐Ÿ moved indoors, and the children have been enjoying energetic games of bench ball instead. ๐Ÿƒโ€โ™‚๏ธ๐Ÿƒโ€โ™€๏ธ

๐ŸŒŸ Well done to everyone for such a positive and successful week back! Have a wonderful weekend, and we look forward to another exciting week of learning ahead. ๐Ÿ˜Š

I canโ€™t believe it is half term already as we head into our final term of the school year โ€” wow, it feels like it has flown by! โฐโœจ It is lovely to reflect on how much our children have grown, both inside and out ๐ŸŒฑ๐Ÿ’›

A great example of this can be seen in Nursery, where the children are now confidently learning sounds, blending them together, and taking part in daily mathematical challenges ๐Ÿ”คโž•๐Ÿงฉ

In Reception, the children have been learning about London ๐Ÿ‡ฌ๐Ÿ‡ง, making their own models of the city ๐Ÿ™๏ธ and creating their own information books ๐Ÿ“š โ€” their writing is amazing! โœ๏ธโญ

In Year 1, I was lucky enough to hear the lovely music the children have been creating while improvising on the glockenspiels ๐ŸŽถ๐ŸŽต โ€” what sweet tunes they produced! ๐Ÿ˜Š

In Year 2, the children have completed their Geography learning about rivers, seas, and oceans ๐ŸŒŠ๐Ÿ—บ๏ธ with beautiful two-page spreads. In Maths, they have been giving directions to their partners to guide them through classroom mazes ๐Ÿงญ as well as designing mazes of their own.

Years 3 and 4 have also been finishing their Geography learning by completing creative two-page spreads ๐ŸŒ๐Ÿ“–. This is such a lovely way to assess learning through a knowledgeable and creative display of their understanding ๐ŸŽจโœจ

Year 5 spent a morning at โ€˜Little Fishโ€™ ๐ŸŸ. We wanted to give back to our community โค๏ธ, so the children helped to play with the younger children, keep them safe, make and serve toast ๐Ÿž, and tidy up afterwards.

In Year 6 โ€” one of my favourite units โ€” the children have started a suspense unit based on The Nightmare Man ๐Ÿ‘€๐Ÿ“–. They have been reading and verbally retelling the story, as well as creating emoji charts ๐Ÿ˜€๐Ÿ˜จ๐Ÿ˜ข to show how the main character feels throughout and finding evidence to explain those emotions ๐Ÿ”๐Ÿ’ญ

We hope you all have a wonderful half term break filled with fun, rest, and special family moments โ˜€๏ธ๐Ÿ˜Š Please stay safe, look after one another, and we look forward to welcoming everyone back happy and refreshed for our final term together! ๐Ÿ’›๐Ÿ“š

๐ŸŒŸYear 6 ๐ŸŒŸ

Year 6 deserve their very own post this week!

This week, our Year 6 children completed their SATs tests. These statutory assessments measure reading, writing and maths skills โ€” but they do not measure the many other qualities each and every child showed throughout the week: positivity, perseverance, resilience and the determination to always try their very best.

Every single child gave it their all and supported one another along the way. There were so many lovely moments and interactions that showed deep friendships, kindness, respect and genuine care for each other.

SATs are not just about one week of tests. They are the result of years of learning, practising and embedding skills and knowledge, and our whole school community has been behind this wonderful group of Year 6 children every step of the way.

A very special mention must go to Miss Khan and Mrs Golledge, who have nurtured these skills and prepared the children incredibly well. Their support, encouragement and belief in every single child this year โ€” and especially throughout this week โ€” has been amazing to see ๐Ÿ˜

I was so impressed by the confidence with which the children tackled the questions and the strategies they used to approach them.

Well done, Year 6 โ€” you are all superstars and you absolutely smashed it! โญ

What a busy week at Silverdale Primary this week โ€“ wow!

Nursery have been learning the story of The Gingerbread Man, creating their own life-sized gingerbread man and designing their own too. It was a great opportunity to practise those cutting skills.

Reception have loved the story of The Naughty Bus โ€“ creating their own stories (yes, writing their own!) and making maps for a bus journey. Such proud teacher moments!

Year 1 and 2 enjoyed an amazing trip to Peak Wildlife. The rain certainly didnโ€™t dampen their fun! The picture of them watching the polar bears whilst eating their lunch is incredible. Who else can say theyโ€™ve had lunch with a polar bear?

Year 3 and 4 have been busy debating hot topics such as: Should Minecraft be banned? and Should homework be banned? They became incredibly passionate about their arguments and I canโ€™t wait to see their finished writing.

Year 5 have created beautiful origami birds โ€“ such a tricky technique, but the results look stunning. First, they used watercolours and different brushstrokes to create a feather effect on their origami paper.

And as for Year 6โ€ฆ
