We’re really pleased to share that Newcastle-under-Lyme’s Town of Culture 2028 bid has now been submitted 🫶

The application has been shaped by a wide range of local partners and cultural organisations, working together alongside businesses, residents, young people and community groups across the town.

A big thank you to everyone who’s taken the time to share ideas along the way, whether that’s through surveys, coming along to a drop in sessions or sending across thoughts by email.

A lot of what’s in the submission has come directly from those conversations, as well as the great input we’ve had from people locally.

The focus throughout has simply been to listen and understand what’s already happening in our town and what people want to see more of.

That’s already helping to build a clearer, shared direction and bringing people together around what Newcastle-under-Lyme is and what it could be: a town that’s creative, independent and full of people who make things happen.

There’s a strong sense of pride in Newcastle, but also a real appetite to do more, try new things and build on what’s already happening.

🌟 Our Borough Heroes Awards Young Hero is… the amazing SARAH EDWARDS! 🌟

Sarah is a shining example of courage and compassion. Alongside daily caring responsibilities for her mum and grandma, she still finds time to support her community 💚

She raises money for charities, helps with foodbank and wellbeing projects, and plays a key role in improving support for people with disabilities through her work at Martec Training.

Sarah is a role model for young people across our borough — determined, kind and always ready to help.

We’re appealing for information after a woman suffered life-threatening injuries following a collision in Newcastle-under-Lyme.

It happened at about 11.05am yesterday (Thursday 5 March) on Pepper Street. The driver of red Mini Countryman collided with a woman in her 70s.

We attended the scene alongside paramedics from West Midlands Ambulance Service and Midlands Air Ambulance.

The woman was taken to hospital, where she remains.

The driver, a man in his 70s, stayed at the scene and has been helping collision investigators with their enquiries.

Anyone who saw what happened or those with CCTV, dashcam or doorbell footage of the area at the time is asked to get in touch. Call 101 or use Live Chat on our website, quoting incident 280 of 5 March.

Tomorrow (13 January), Newcastle‑under‑Lyme will be in the spotlight at the Houses of Parliament.

We’re joining award‑winning developers Capital & Centric to showcase the ground‑breaking redevelopment of the former Midway car park – a bold project putting our town centre on the map 🗺️

The old 1960s Midway car park is being transformed into 110 new homes, complete with shared spaces like a gym. It's the first project of its kind in Europe – turning an existing car park into modern apartments.

This approach avoids demolition, saving thousands of tonnes of embodied carbon while preserving Newcastle’s familiar skyline and giving it a fresh, modern purpose.

The projects at Midway, Astley Place and The Ryecroft will:
🏠 create hundreds of homes
🌆 boost town centre life
♻️ protect Newcastle’s unique skyline

Work is already underway across all three sites ⚡

At The Ryecroft, around 130 new apartments will be built alongside landscaping, with further parts of the site set aside for future uses, including an aparthotel. At Astley Place (formerly York Place), the original shopping centre structure is being retained and repurposed into homes with ground‑floor retail and leisure space – another major first ⭐

These projects will also open up a new route between Merrial Street and Ironmarket, supporting plans for a future live music venue near the Old Bulls Head 🎵

✨️ Help us light up Newcastle under Lyme ✨️

This year Castle Creatives and B.ARTS are working together to make Newcastle Lanterns happen, but we need your help too.

Newcastle Lantern Parade happens just after dusk on Saturday 6th December, people come together to parade with their handmade willow and tissue lanterns around the streets of Newcastle Town Centre accompanied by live music.

Unfortunately this year we haven't been able to secure all the funding we need to run the event and so we are asking any attendees or supporters who can afford to do so, to donate a small amount to help with the running costs.
