⚽ Good luck to England as they get their World Cup campaign underway tonight against Croatia.

Here's hoping they start as they mean to go on!

Whether you're watching at home, with friends and family, or in one of our fantastic local pubs, I hope you enjoy the game. I will be watching after votes here in Parliament!

It has been very concerning to hear reports that the County Council is ordering the removal of Pride-related displays and activities at libraries under its control.

I have signed a letter to the Leader of Staffordshire County Council, alongside several of my Staffordshire colleagues, voicing our concerns.

Staffordshire is a welcoming and inclusive place. How we operate our public spaces and services should reflect that.

It is particularly concerning that the council felt it perfectly okay to make this decree without consultation or publication

People across Staffordshire deserve transparency and accountability – not decisions taken behind closed doors that fail to recognise the value of bringing our communities together.

It’s a gorgeous summer’s evening here in Newcastle-under-Lyme.

Earlier tonight, as I was getting my bags ready for Parliament; I was texted by a journalist to say that the Assisted Dying Bill would be brought back by one of my parliamentary colleagues who won the Private Member’s Ballot.

I respect everyone’s right to their own views but for me - this is bad, bad news. My job as our MP wasn’t to talk about the principle or the idea of assisted dying, it was to scrutinise and unpick the hard, crude words on the Bill before me. That’s exactly what I did and will do again.

Why? Because it’s the exact same Bill that failed to get through both Houses of Parliament earlier this year.

The flaws are clear, its deficiencies are obvious and its effects will be horrendous for those most in need.

I hope my colleagues will read the Bill, study the words contained in the Bill and realise the power of their vote.

I'm delighted that Oaklands Nursery School has been named an Early Years Stronger Practice Hub – one of just 18 new hubs across England, bringing the national network to 36.

They'll share their expertise with nurseries and childminders, raising the quality of early years education for more children across Newcastle-under-Lyme.

Combined with Labour's 30 funded hours offer, this is how we give every child the best start in life.

Well done to the team at Oaklands Nursery!

On Friday, I visited Sir Thomas Boughey Academy to hear directly from students about their use of social media and their experiences of online safety.

During the government's ‘Growing Up in the Online World’ consultation, parents and students across Newcastle-under-Lyme wrote to me with their views.

I was glad to continue that conversation with some of the young people who will be at the heart of any proposed changes. The students I met at Sir Thomas Boughey Academy were insightful, balanced and understanding of the great importance of the issue to their generation.

The government will publish its findings from the consultation this summer, and action must follow. The future of social media should be shaped with the generation who have grown up with it, and I will be taking their voices with me in debates in Parliament and conversations with Ministers as the government decides how to act.

I've written to Severn Trent to request an update on the work ongoing to identify the cause of the flooding we have seen this morning on Church Lane/High Street in Wolstanton.

I have also written to Staffordshire County Council and Newcastle Borough Council to seek clarity on the measures they will be putting in place to support local people until things are resolved.

I will keep you informed and if you have any specific issues, please don’t hesitate to get in touch: [email protected]

Over 1,000 residents signed my petition to protect College Fields in Madeley, which I presented to Parliament in February. Staffordshire County Council's response was lacklustre, to say the least.

The Borough Council has a new administration, and this is their chance to show they'll listen where others wouldn't.

I'm calling on the new Borough Council to join me – and many local people – in formally urging Staffordshire County Council to keep College Fields open and accessible for residents, and to work transparently with local people and the Parish Council on the future of the site.

Please sign the petition and share it

We, the undersigned, residents of the constituency of Newcastle-under-Lyme, call on Newcastle-under-Lyme Borough Council (NULBC) to formally urge Staffordshire County Council to protect College Fields in Madeley as an open-access green space.

I am delighted that three schools in Newcastle-under-Lyme – Alsagers Bank Primary Academy, Churchfields Primary School, and Our Lady and St Werburgh's Catholic Primary School – have successfully secured investment through the Condition Improvement Fund (CIF) programme!

They will each benefit from a share of over £450 million in Government investment, to carry out urgent repairs to school buildings and infrastructure, and fire safety alterations.

This funding will ensure that our local children and young people – from Audley to Chesterton and through to Clayton – are taught in safer, high-quality learning environments where they can truly thrive and reach their full potential.
