6-14 June 2026 is the NFCF National Cemeteries Week and Love Your Burial Ground Week with Churches Count on Nature.

This week celebrates the important work being done in burial grounds and the positive impact that these spaces have on communities and well-being.

Burial grounds are meaningful places of reflection and tranquility and spaces that are rich in wildlife and natural habitats.

We are proud of our borough cemeteries and crematorium grounds and the positive and impactful spaces that they provide.

This week is Dying Matters Week and the theme is 'Let's talk about death and dying.'

Death, dying and bereavement affects us all ❤️

For information, resources and to find out what's on near you please visit Hospice UK

There are a number of reasons why we find talking about death and dying difficult. It could be fear of saying the wrong thing, or of hurting someone’s feelings. At Dying Matters we want to start these conversations.

This year's Dying Matters Awareness theme is 'Let's talk about death and dying'.

Head over to our Dying Matters account, where every day we'll be sharing our Top Talking Tips for starting conversations about death and dying, breaking down the taboos and opening up the dialogue.

Because talking about Dying Matters.

Well done Marcus and David!

Well done Marcus and David!

It’s been another positive couple of days out on the road, celebrating professional achievement across the sector.

Yesterday, we visited South Lincolnshire Crematorium where James Gammons successfully passed his CTTS. A fantastic accomplishment, supported by his mentor, Chloe Martin.

Today, we have been to Newcastle-under-Lyme to Bradwell Crematorium, where Marcus Stewart also achieved his CTTS, with guidance from his mentor, David Banks.

These visits are always a reminder of the commitment, professionalism, and high standards that continue to shape crematorium services across the UK. The role of mentors is vital in developing confidence and competence, and it’s great to see that support in action.

Congratulations to James and Marcus on their success, and thank you to Chloe and David for their dedication to supporting the next generation of professionals.

Did you know Keele Cemetery is full of sustainability!

Thanks to the hard working teams that maintain Keele Cemetery and manage burials the Council have been able to create an important space for the memory of our loved ones. Not only through tree burials but through caring for the local environment as well, making this space full of beautiful wildlife.

Keele Cemetery is home to a community orchard, 2 ponds, wildflower areas and areas for long grass which help pollinators, ground nesting birds and reduce emissions.

We have had a new, bigger and better screen in the service hall at Bradwell Crematorium!

We use the Obitus Maestro System and through this system music can be played, photos and photo tributes can be displayed and services can be streamed. Keepsakes can also be ordered, before and after a service and family made tributes can also be shown.

For more information, please visit the Obitus website and discuss the options available with your chosen Funeral Director to create a personal and unique service.

We have our memorial christmas trees in place at the Crematorium and at Keele Cemetery Office. If you wish to place a dedication on one of the trees but cannot get to us then please email your wording across to [email protected] and let us know which tree you would like it to be placed on. We will then complete one for you and place it on your chosen tree.

This year the trees were kindly donated by the local Marsh & Son branch of Co-Operative Funeralcare.

2-8 December is National Grief Awareness Week - an initiative led by The Good Grief Trust to raise awareness of the impact of grief ❤️

This year the theme is 'Growing With Grief' which acknowledges that after a loss there can be growth; this growth does not erase the pain but it allows hope to return.

There is no right or wrong way to grieve and no-one should grieve alone without support and there is so much good support available.

More information and resources can be found at https://www.thegoodgrieftrust.org/ngaw/?utm_source=chatgpt.com

At Bradwell Crematorium, when you book a direct cremation service a Virtual Memorial Service can be ordered through Obitus; so even though there was no funeral to attend, you can purchase this keepsake of real committal footage to witness your loved ones final journey.

More information on a VMS and other services that Obitus provide can be found at https://www2.obitus.com/our-services/virtualmemorialservice

Below is a demo of the available Bradwell VMS; the external crematorium footage would remain the same but the name, date, poem, music and visual tributes would be personalised and the committal footage would be the real footage of the direct cremation.

We are continuously looking to provide and deliver a respectful and dignified service to our families, while being mindful that everyone wants to say goodbye in a different way that is personal to them and reflects their loved one❤️

We have left areas in our cemeteries for the grass to grow longer. This has a very positive impact on the environment, not only encouraging wildlife but increasing carbon storage and developing the Borough's resilience against climate change. They are areas that are not yet in use or areas that cannot be used 🌱🌳💚

Newcastle-under-Lyme Cemeteries are also areas of high natural beauty and diversity including diverse species of trees, wildlife, birds, pollinators and long grass.

The Council have ensured that visitors have access to these spaces of high natural beauty by mowing paths for access to enjoy. Take this photo from Silverdale Cemetery where we have left long grass to grow to support more natural species at the site.
